We stayed here for two nights recently and enjoyed this old hotel immensely. Probably not suitable for lovers of five star chain hotels but anyone who appeciates a grand hotel a little past its prime, this place is great. Our room on the fifth floor was huge - sure the decor is a bit dated but in a faded grandeur... more

My Wife and I stayed at the Royal Savoy Madiera for a week 16th /23rd June this year (2008) and, contrary to what some reviewers say we had a superbly enjoyable time. yes, it is a bit old fashioned I suppose but this added to its charm. It was a cnge to get away from the over hyped glitzy palaces tha... more

We were expecting a nice hotel but in fact it is an old, smelly and antiquated hotel. For the rates, we were expecting a nicer hotel and better service. The building is beautiful but it is now run down. We had a large room on the second floor with 2 balconies which had much debris as if they had not... more

We have just returned from a week at the Royal Savoy. The hotel is really nice and has a lot of antiques. The service we experienced was excellent. It was so lovely and we stayed in one of the rooms that had a lake view. The Wi-Fi service was good & dependable. You can purchase a 2 hour or 24... more

The hotel is a very old impressive chateau, which in old times should have been very luxury. But, at present it definitely needs renovation outside and inside. In the rooms, the furniture, as well, is very old. Its garden needs more much more care. Anyway, the service was very good and the hotel was clean. The rooms with lake view... more

This hotel is in an elegant old building and decent location 10 minutes walk from the train station. But it is run down and not well managed. For example, at 8 am the halls were being vacuumed. They have only old style keys, one per room, sorta annoying. It is also expensive for what it is. The bathrooms are clean... more

For the price we paid, this hotel was horrible. As stated before, it is very old and outdated and does NOT have a heated swimming pool even though it is pictured in brochures for the hotel and on every description of the hotel. There seemed to be much, much better options. more

How I wish I had checked this site before I booked into this hotel. Ghastly place. Old and tired and in need of a complete overhaul. I felt like I was the only person staying there - until the noise from the adjoining room of a large number of Italian guests yelling over the noise of the TV. The bar... more

As you approach the hotel it looks a stunning old building. You walk in to the reception and are greeted by friendly staff who are very polite and helpful. Then you cast your eye over the rest of the lobby and notice that it has this very worn and tired look over what I'm guessing is supposed to be opulent... more

It is hard to think of something good to say about this place. It is not cheap at all, but is so old fashioned and taste so poor it is almost comic. It is one of those places which still uses a room key, to give an idea. The room was noisy, although there is a far off view of... more
