We agree with the majority of reviews posted to date. On arrival we were informed that there would be no hot water in the room for 24 hours, and the faucet did not work for cold water in the basin for 24 hours. The phone was non operational for our 7 day stay and we were forced to go to... more

The location of the hotel is good and the staff rather friendly but that is the only good to say about this hotel. My room was in the annex just across the street and in the first room I found a cat on the bed. When I asked to change room as I am allergic to cats, I got a... more

After reading the reviews on here I thought I'd chosen a good hotel but I was a bit disappointed. We always stay in cheaper hotels as we just need a clean place to sleep. Although their is no smoking in the hotel there was a smell and our towels always smelt of smoke. The staff weren't very polite, however served... more

Stayed at the Leif over Easter 2008. Shops were closed (which meant I could keep my wife focused on sight-seeing). The restaurants, bars and tourist attractions were all still open. Managed to fit a lot in just three very enjoyable days. The Leifur Eiriksson suited our needs perfectly. We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist, who as it turned out,... more

Organised this hotel through Cresta and it was great value for money. The hotel is in a great location and fulfills the purpose without any of the bells and whistles.Breakfast included and free coffee add to the value. Max and Shaun were what made it for us and offered good advice on tours, restaurants and the discounts do work which... more

Stayed in the winter when rates are low, tourists are scarce, and if you are lucky, the Northern Lights dance above you. Great time to visit Iceland. The HLE is perfectly located. It's on high ground next to Hallgrimskirkja, a beautiful church. (Make a small donation and you can climb up to the belfry for amazing panoramic views - a... more

The hotel is directly opposite the best marker in the whole of Reykjavik - the Hallgrimskirkja Church, making it almost impossible to get lost. The hotel felt a little sad, and would benefit from a bit of TLC. There were 3 of us on our trip and the small room became even smaller, the third bed being a camp bed,... more

Got a great deal on this hotel through lastminute. Requested directly via the hotel for a decent room as had read a few others having problems. Got a lovely room looking out onto the church. Not huge but the bed was really comfy and the bathroom clean - pretty much all you need for a good value city break hotel.... more

This place is a bit like a hostel. The rooms are really really tiny to the point where I felt a little claustrophobic. On the beds are bed spreads and cushions that don't seem very clean. Apart from those things the service was very good. The breakfast was good and the bathrooms were good and clean. The sulphur smell is... more

The hotel was ok but it was poorly maintained. I was, initially, put into a room on the top floor where the door could not be locked. The latch for the lock had been installed upside down. The clerk then relocated (downgraded?) me to a (just below) ground floor room, which was damp and noisy (street noise). The sheets were... more
