having looked on the website we were not expecting too much from the hotel.it looks old and in need of modernisation. when we arrived the outside of the hotel was as old as it looks on the website and the reception area is in need of a overhaul, but once we were in our room we were pleasantly suprised. our... more

We booked an Easter break at this hotel before reading reviews and arrived without any great expectations. However on arrival we found the hotel to be very nice. Check in friendly and the downstairs lounges and bar looked to be newly refurbished , everywhere was clean and tidy. Our (standard ) room was spotless with new furniture and complimentary easter... more

The hotel is in a lovely position but is in need of a complete refurbishment both inside and outside, The entrance driveway in need of the tarmac finishing, and parking bays marked. The reception is the most dismal I have ever seen, and the office is unbelievable poor state. But the staff are all very nice and friendly mainly all... more

We've just spent a weekend at the Cumbria Grand -a family get together for five of us and our first visit there. We were welcomed very warmly and noticed the friendly atmosphere straight away.We really couldn't fault this hotel. The buffet breakfast was the best we've encountered in the UK and the food in general is delicious. The staff couldn't do enough for... more

Overall I would recommend a visit but only one night, we stayed one night after dropping my son at Lancaster University. The location is excellent with views over the bay and the property itself whilst dated is in acceptable condition, and "Grand" is apt in the title, with massive volted cellings and wood panaling everywhere. The main dinning area is... more

Stayed on DBB basis and good points vastly outweigh negatives. Plus points - excellent food (buffet breakfast with anything you could desire, carvery pm with large selection and extremely generous portions, all served by efficiently organised and pleasant staff) - hotel decor, corridors and rooms in need of some upgrading but en-suite bathroom very clean/modern - putting-green, tennis, snooker, etc.... more

The hotel was very dilapidated and a sickly damp smell permeated the air everywhere you went. The place was very cold and the carpets were to be frank filthy. Things get worse when you get to your room, my bathroom was clearly from the 1970's and the room furniture looked like the kind of stuff you would expect to find... more
