I stay at the Abbey quite regularly with work and having now stayed in most wings I now feel comfortable enough to have a fair view of the place. The older wing is in desperate need of update. The rooms are very nice, and because of their age are quite roomy, but some of the windows need urgent replacement. The... more

Stayed here for our wedding at local registry office, and had small reception at hotel. Had the most fantastic stay, our suite was huge and rooms our guests had were lovely (all in old part of hotel). Nothing to fault about the food, dinner and breakfast both very good. Thought it was excellent value for money, good location and we... more

As a contractor with a well known Barrovian company I stay regularly in the town and feel more than capable to judge the local accomodation. The Abbey used to be my favourite but judged on my last visit it's no longer my first choice. As other reviewers have stated the hotel is beautiful externally, like some Agatha Christie novel come... more

My husband and I stayed at the Abbey House while he was on business in Barrow. He has stayed here many times and knew to ask for a room in the 'older section'. It was really something! The old English charm....which means interesting decor and a bit run down. The beds were SOFT (as in too soft) and the room... more

I stayed here for one night in February 2008 but have stayed before. The rooms are large and warm and the bathroom enormous, although I was lucky enough to get a suit I have stayed in the standard rooms and they are also large enough. The bar is well set out and there are quiet areas for the business traveller... more

I stayed here during my brothers wedding which was being held at the hotel including the ceremony. The hotel looks amazing and the staff were lovely and helpful. Our room was nice and did the job - the view of the grounds was lovely. I thought the hotel was perfect as a wedding venue everything ran smoothly and was very... more

Just a big letdown from the minute I saw the place it was downhill. The hotel looks beautiful from the outside and as I pulled into the carpark I was really happy with my choice. The rest of the stay was extremely poor. The room was small, basic, flowery and extremely dated. It had a musty aroma that was half... more

We booked this hotel because it looked spooky and we wanted a quick get away for a christmas treat. We arranged a room for family of four and a small well behaved Yorkie Terrier. The room was fantastic with huge amount of space for the kids and dog to play games. The staff were great and brought up room service... more

The hotel looked splended from the outside. However I was given a single bed when I checked in. I last slept in a single bed when I was a child. The bed was awful and the room cold. The bathroom was better with gallons of hot water. The hotel needs a lick of paint and has that " old worldy... more

I stayed at this hotel because I was attending a wedding held at the hotel. The hotel were very accommodating and arriving at 2am was not a problem. They have 24 hour people on the desk. Reception were very friendly and walked us to our rooms to make sure we didn't get lost which was much needed at 2am! I... more
