We stayed here for one night and booked it last minute with laterooms.com. Great room for my wife and the kids - we were in the spring suite which was massive and had great views over the decked patio. Breakfast great and plenty of it - a bit out of the way for the central lakes but well worth a... more

Attended a wedding at Abbey House, stayed for 2 nights. From the moment we arrived, the staff were FANTASTIC. Very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. They made the stay!! The hotel itself is a little gem in Barrow. Stayed in the Summer suite which had double and single bed, huge room and corner bath. Gardens lovely, food excellent.... more

My decision to award only one star evolves from one issue I had with this hotel. I found the actual building a delight, it looked a milion dollars from the roadside and the quaint old world charm continued into the building. But I chose the wrong day to visit as it was swamped with wedding guests and as a result... more

Probably the best hotel I have visited in England. An old (1914) country house for the local shipyard's Chairman converted to a hotel. The new wing has large, comfortable and modern rooms but the guest bedrooms in the original main building are a delight - each one different. Very well furnished and comfortable; plumbing fittings are often period but work... more

This has to be one of the loveliest hotel we have stayed in. My husband is from Barrow, and on visiting relatives we have stopped in this hotel on a few occassions, as i have always admired it from the road. It has a fabulous approach to the most wonderfully archietecturally build hotel. When we have stayed , we have... more

Stayed here on business for just one night. The original building is impressive, it was built for the Vickers family in the early 20th century. The modern bedroom wing is very comfortable but I got a sneaking feeling that the rooms would be noisy if all occupied, but the hotel was quiet when I stayed. Otherwise my room was very... more

As previous reviewers have said the hotel approach is impressive. I found the staff to be very helpful and attentive. The restaurant staff, likewise. I arrived late, but with prompt friendly service managed to eat comfortably before it was too late. Large clean room, I would stay here again. more

On pulling into this hotel I was impressed. It's beautiful and looks like an old converted manor house. But... this is conference hotel, nothing more - and I had the misfortune of being there when a conference was in full swing. Food was not available as "there were not enough staff", the bar was staffed by one solitary over worked... more

As you drive through the gates of Abbey House, what an entrance - the external facade of the building is beautiful, and you can't help but be impressed. However, there is a modern annex built onto the hotel, and this is where our room was situated (disappointing of course!). The room was fine, but just like any other modern, character-less... more
