We found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The room we were given was a twin when we had in fact booked a double. This was soon rectified. The room, whilst fairly pleasant, was a bit on the dark side and felt more like a Travelodge room than a so called 4 star one. In fact, the section we... more

I usually like boutique hotels, but this beautiful mid size hotel is a hidden jewel in the Merseyside area. I stayed for 2 nights with a girl friend on a spa break and we enjoyed every minute. The health club is amazing!!! but then so is the food, dinner in the hotel restaurant was sumptuous. The staff were friendly and... more

We stayed here for one night, attending a wedding elsewhere. Arrival very disappointing with very lethargic porters and no bright welcome. Sent to our room on a mile hike round 3 sides of a courtyard/car park to arrive at a sad dark depressing room. The room we discovered later could be reached by diagonally crossing the car park and in... more

When I first drove up the drive I was impressed but this didnt last long. Reception was unhelpful and the room was nothing short of disgraceful. The bathroom was filthy and the bedcover covered in dust. The sheets had blood stains on them. The restaurant was poor by any standards. Food was fussy and absurdly expensive. Never again. more

I have stayed many times at this hotel on business over the past year and find it to be one of the best I have ever stayed in! The staff are excellent, the rooms are of a very high standard, the food superb and the Leisure club is fantastic. more

We had a pretty bad experience when we stayed here 5 nights in March 2008, having intended to stay 7 or 8 nights. Overall, the hotel is not remotely 4 star standard, is way overpriced, and has serious delusions of grandeur. The focus is on functions and weddings, ordinary guests seem to take second place. Furthermore, tthe hotel is 200... more

Having stayed at Thornton Hall in the past I had a pleasant surprise, they have refurbished most bedrooms. We stayed in one of the new rooms, it was a pleasure. New modern bathrooms with plenty of space and great facilities. The toiletries are Elemis a real treat! We ate in the Italian Restaurant again a real treat, food and service... more

I booked a 'Restore & Rebalance' weekend as a present for my wife, this included 1 x nights stay, entrance to the spa, 2 x treatments (each), evening meal with a bottle of wine), lunch in the spa and breakfast in bed...and I have to say that we had an absolutely fantastic stay. From the moment we checked in the... more

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in December 2007. The room we were given for the first night was awful - not even up to 2 star standards in my opinion - it was in the annex/courtyard buildings surrounding the car park. The room was straight out the 1980's, dirty, cold and the bathroom had too many faults... more

We stayed at Thornton Hall on Wednesday night 12th December. We were given a very basic room in the new wing, room 229. Not much privacy as it was on the ground floor and there was a path outside the window. There seemed to be staff outside for most of our stay. There was no mini bar, no proper soap... more
