We were a party of four and had two large adjoining rooms which was perfect, each of the rooms had both a double and a single bed. The receptionist was most helpful. The staff in the bar (mainly non Irish, which is usual) were friendly and efficient. One of them brought to our attention a special heritage day which was... more

Was down at the weekend. Rooms were beautiful, food very tasty as was one of the bar staff, Louise, who went the extra mile for the guests that weekend. Looking forward to returning more

We stayed here during a tour of Ireland in April 2007. During a week-long tour, this was our favorite hotel. The location is charming, and is a good setting for taking a walk, situated near to a river with abundant wildlife (we spotted several blue herons during a short walk). Rooms were clean, with comfortable beds, and with lots of... more

Just returned from a 4 day winter break at the Downhill Hotel. The winter break was 209 euros per person for 4 nights dinner, bed and breakfast. Room was very smart with double and single bed, spotless bathroom with bath and shower, tea and coffee facilities. It was modern and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was very good with the full Irish... more

My husband and I have stayed in this hotel 3 times. We travel round the world, and this is by far our favourite hotel. First time we had a room in older part, but were moved next day to new wing. Bedrooms here 100%. Staff 100% Nice to have family feeling, rather than uniformed 'official' staff who only know you... more

This hotel is excellent, a real gem. I stayed here for two nights during my trip around the west of Ireland in mid-July, and had an amazing time. I had requested a single room, but was upgraded to a luxury suite. When I opened the bedroom door I got a very pleasant surprise. It had a four-poster bed, a jacuzzi,... more

Where do you start?! Well the one major disadvantage of this hotel is its overpriced, run down and old rooms. At over 200€ per room per night its a ripoff for what you get. Small, old, damp, battered and bruised facilities that are so outdated that you would think that you were still in the Seventies! The old and battered... more

I organised a boys golfing weekend. The hotel was offering deals on golfing breaks, so after some enquities booked up to stay. The rooms were clean and spacious, service was friendly and efficient and the food was very good. It even stopped raining whilst we were there!! Everyone in the group had an enjoyable weekend and want to return to... more

What a pleasure to go to a hotel in Ireland that is not purpose built and cares about the customer. All the staff were exceptional and courteous. I brought my husband for a romantic mini break and had a great time. The food was nothing too elaborate but what we got was excellent. Nice choice on the menu with fresh... more

Myself and my fiancee stayed at the Downhill for a night during a wedding. We awoke the following morning to find a large cockroach in the room and called the front desk who sent a member of the housekeeping staff up to the room who removed it. When we checked out a few minutes later we were asked by the... more
