the pool at the hotel is really fun, with a swim-up bar, and the drinks are actually good, and not a rip-off. there are lounge chairs in the water, and the water temperature is perfect. the hot tub is also good. Well our good vacation luck didn't hold for us on this trip. We encountered the first tropical storm of the season (very untypical this early) and were pretty much rained in for 4 days...None of the tours were going out due to the water conditions and flying conditions and they are certainly not at fault for that. If you are looking for a place to kick back and relax this is it. The pool is the best one we saw on Ambergris and the bartenders blended some fantastic drinks. My stay at the Belizean shores was nice. The 3 stars is an accurate judgement; nothing to write home about, but good if you're looking to get away for a 'nice' vacation.
