We arrived in the Serengeti from Manyara NP and had a wonderful game drive around the Kopjes on the way to the Sopa Lodge. The lodge, as others have commented is a bit of a 70's concrete monstrosity, but is clean and welcoming. The decor was ok and I think had been recently renovated. Good views over the plains. Food... more

We stayed at Sopa unexpectedly, as the rainy season monsoon made the tented camp unavailable at the last minute, and given the posts here I was dreading it. However, it appears that most of the reviews here are pre-renovation and now totally irrelavant. We found the refurbished hotel more than satisfactory and considerably better than expected. The rooms at the... more

We stayed at the Serengeti Sopa for one night in February 2008 and have to admit it was better than expected. As we had been camping the previous night near Lake Manyara this felt like a real treat. Plus points: Large, clean, well decorated and comfortable room – infact it looked like it had been newly refurbished. Superb views of... more

This was our only stop in the African countryside, so I don't know what our expectations should have been. What we found was a mixed bag. On the plus side: A beautifully designed new facility, tastefully blended into the hillside, with large multi-level public spaces inside and out. A large room with terrace affording a great view of the Serengeti... more

We looked on Trip Advisor when booking our trip and, to be honest, we were dreading our two nights here (during an organised week long safari trip) based on the reviews posted at that time. We were very pleased to find that the hotel was being renovated. One wing was completed and the rooms were finished to a good standard,... more

We travel frequently and generally find the information posted in Trip Advisor the most reliable and aligned with our perceptions. We were somewhat concerned booking our recent Tanzania safari package that included 3 SOPA lodges. We considered the upgrade which would have included the top end exclusive resorts, but didn’t feel it was necessarily worth the extra £500 per person... more

We only one night at the Sopa in Serengeti... Except for couple of nights, we used mainly smaller hotels or camps but we wanted to try the air balloon there... The hotel setup is beautiful... on the slope of a hill facing the Serengeti (endless plains in Swahili)... The hotel itself is very nice and clean but does no have... more

My wife and I recently spent two days at this lodge during our safari last month. The rooms were excellent especially the outstanding views we enjoyed. The timing of the access to hot water was a bit of a pain but at least there was hot water. The meals were equal to the reputation of the lodge with an excellent... more

We stayed at the Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Seregeti SOPA lodges on a Safari. All are of a similar standard. The accommodation at Serengeti Sopa Lodge is excellent. Rooms our housed in large two storey African “style” circular huts. Our room was huge with a large queen (?) size bed with mozzie netting , separate entrance hall. No Internet access of... more

We stayed here as part of a safari staying at the Ngorongoro Sopa and Tarangire Sopa as well. I'm surprised by the previous reviews (although the un-renovated rooms didn't look good), as we loved the lodge. While we were there they were finishing renovations on the last few rooms - looked like around 10 left to complete. We were lucky... more
