When in Kathmandu, you should sample the Nepali culture rather than stay in a bland international hotel. And at the Kantipur Temple House, local culture and quality hotel standards are combined. We loved the Nawari carvings (as wonderful as in any building in Kathmandu) the selection of food, the polite service, the peaceful garden, the convenient location and the extras... more

Located between Thamel and Durbar Square, the hotel's location is perfect. But better yet it is a quiet oasis in the middle of chaotic and noisy Kathmandu. Beautiful Newari architecture with traditional Nepali touches throughout. Wonderful and friendly staff. Highly recommended. more

Situated in Jyatha district, just south of the famous Thamel district, this hotel stands out as an 'Oasis of Calm' amidst all the chaos of Kathmandu, and provides a respite from the mayhem of Thamel with all its tourist attractions. Built in a traditional Newari style, the moment you step in from the alleyway through the gates of the garden... more

Clean, great service and central location between Thamel (Shops and restaurants area) and the old city. Price also good for such a location. Luxury rooms are 5 stars level but also the standard rooms are nice and clean. The building is a former temple with typical Newari (Nepalese Indu) architecture. Ask for transportation from and to airport. Electricity is an... more

Stayed in the Kantipur for 5 days. Walking distance to Thamel shopping district, and also the Monkey Temple. Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful room in the Nepalese style building. Good food in the restaurant. Nice rooftop terrace, and patio at entrance on grounds for lunch and drinks. Power outages in Kathmandu at this time is a problem and affects... more

We are delighted to find the Kantipur Temple House. Fabulously friendly, courtious, and thoughtful staff. We have stayed in 6 or 7 hotels during our stays in Nepal. This is the best. Rates a bit high but worth it and can be negotiated for longer stays. It is wonderful to be greeted by first name and a big smile after... more

I read some of the negative comments made by people about this unique hotel and most are true, BUT- instead of calling the room dark we enjoyed the candles that flickered in the alcoves built into the brick walls of the room, or enjoyed the electric blanket heat source that made the bed so inviting. You have to turn the... more

A lovely hotel on the edge of Thamel & not too far from Durbar Square. One of the few hotels I found with character & style. It is a converted temple. The staff are the highlight - very friendly & great service. They go out of their way to help (including walking you to a computer dealer to have your... more

We stayed at the Kantipur recently, and whilst the building and gardens looked lovely from the outside, the rooms were disappointing. We had problems getting any hot water - often freezing cold - although the manager was very apologetic and explained the water system had to be run for 2 minutes to bring the hot through. Still, we had pre-booked... more

After a terrible first night at Hotel Manaslu, Kathmandu (read my review), I was lucky enough to find this gem of a place right in the heart of Kathmandu. The Kantipur is an oasis of peace in Thamel. The hotel has been built in the Newari style using wood and carvings salvaged from old Nepali buildings. It has a fabulous garden... more
