We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of the new years celebrations. We chose it due to the location and the price. We booked a suite with two seperate rooms on the front of the hotel. It had a small balcony, two televisions, one in each room and a fridge in the sitting room. Hot or cold water was... more

It's rumoured that the Lane Xang was the place to meet secret agents during the cold war. Often reviews of the Lane Xang suggest it's in need of a facelift. I saw no evidence of either. The room was clean. The shower was huge! The staff friendly and helpful. The buffet focuses more on quantity than quality and the coffee... more

Last time I stayed at the Lane Xang Hotel in Vientiane was in January 2008. So far, I always have been happy at this place. I stayed here several times before and I always got a warm welcome with a fresh juice. It's correct that the place has seen better days. Where else in Vientiane do you get a spacious... more

Having read many negative reports we were pleasantly surprised at the standard. Room was large, pool was clean, massive multi cultural breakfast (including American). What do you expect for $33 for two people?Very well situated close to city centre (such as it is!) and to Mekong river. Staff were helpful.Drinks comparatively expensive. more

The front driveway is impressive and the garden is beautifully kept but that's about all we found to like about the Lane Xang. (apart from the bloke in the guard box at the front gate saluting us). We booked it from our previous city on the basis of its write-ups in various guides which talked about its cold-war glamour but... more

Yes it has seen better days. But the staff were very helpful, friendly even, and at $33 I'd say it was good value for money. Great location, great pool. Try the night club, it's great fun. We also ate in the restaurant one night, food was quite nice, and the entertainment a bonus. Breakfast would be improved considerably if they... more

The rooms here are huge and haven't seen a lick of paint in a while, but we were prepared for that. The pool is very tatty, lots of missing and chipped tiles. Food is foul and the massage terrible (they kept stopping mine to take photos of my son on the mobiles). But worst of all is that my mobile... more

Settled on this hotel after reading about it in Rough Guides. When we checked in it was obvious the place had seen better days (cost $33 for a double). After accepting our room (which we did cause we were too tired from travelling to go elsewhere), i saw what i thought was a sweet wrapper on the ground between a... more

Not many hotels have as nice a location as the Lane Xang, facing the Mekong just at the end of the public park along Fa Ngum Road-- that, and very affordable rates, are about all it has going for it. Our room overlooking the river was pretty spacious, but showing many signs of long wear and tear. Not decrepit, but... more
