Not to be compared to European 5 stars, but very decent. Make sure you stay in the west wing which has been restored. A few details, like the carpet in the corridors, need seeing to, the air conditioning and some of the furniture are still the original 70s' Hiltons' but in good shape (besides, I am not fussy and find... more

This was my first visit to Iran. The Hotel was not as bad as it's been rated here in Tripadvisor. I was acually impressed b/c I didn't think Iran was as nice as it was, especially this hotel. I personally don't think of it as a 5 star hotel, but it was very nice, very clean, the food is delicious,... more

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Esteghlal in Dec 2007. We arrived very early on our first morning there, and were able to eat the breakfast buffet that comes with the room. The buffet is quite extensive (breads, melon, cheese, yogurts, eggs, breakfast meats, tea, coffee, juices). We went up to our room after breakfast, it was located... more

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Even my Iranian friends were shocked at my experience of this hotel. US $220 for a small, dark, tired looking room in the 'refurbished wing'. Arrived at 8pm - needed shirt ironed for meetings next day. was told that no iron available. asked for laundry - but it had closed at 6pm and wouldnt be open... more

I stayed at the Esteghlal for 4 nights with my wife. This was her first time in Iran. It was an awful experience. The hotel staff is not just unfriendly but rude. We stayed in the new wing which was supposed to be renovated. Well, our room looked tired and old - no signs of any so-called renovation. The bed... more

I stayed in the Old Tower for one night. This is an old Hilton which hasn't been seriously renovated since1979: The main lobby is fine but old fashioned. My room looked old and the renovation was appalling. The balcony dusty but the view splendid. The service is not professional. To summarize, the Management is poor as in most Iranian institutions.... more

Miserable staff, amnd poor hotel service. This hotel is of very poor standard compared to most hotels around the world. Don;t be fooled by the self appointed 5 stars, they account for nothing. The Thai and Italian resteraunts are of good quality though, And the staff in these resteraunts are very good. But the hotel staff are a real sour... more

I guess that this is the best Hotel in Tehran. It is still a bit of a shocker. There are 2 wings to the hotel, East and West, or "old" and "new" Mine was "old". This meant about 1 star European standard, no kidding. Very, very old (1960's?) and tired, stained, dirty. I would have loved to have moved from... more

I had to stay in this hotel during one of my biz. trips to Tehran. The first thing I noticed was the old appearence of the hotel. It looked as if it was kept untouched from the day hilton was converted to esteghlal. The lobby, the rooms, the restrooms. For instance the toilet parts were original "ideal standard" of US... more
