We spent just one night in this elegant four star hotel, formerly the Pansea, peacefully located in Yangon’s ‘embassy district’, about 3 km from the city centre (Sule Paya). The property is a sensitive conversion of the residence of the former governor of the Shan territories and has pleasant gardens and a small but adequate pool. The public areas are... more

This former residence is beautifully maintained and oozes atmosphere. The management offers excellent service, the rooms are comfortable and the meals were well-presented and good. All of this is very difficult given the current situation in the country. We also enjoyed relaxing by the pool in the lush tropical gardens. We had booked a deluxe room which was large, clean... more

I have just returned from one of my best trips ever - one week in Yangon, Inle Lake and Bagan. In Yangon I stayed at the Governor's Residence one night before and after the trip and it was a treat. The moment I stepped over the entry (with the sound of a welcoming gong) I was sure to have made... more

Lovely "colonial" building, impressive place to walk in to ! My room was huge, had a very modern clean nice bathroom, airconditioning, large bed - everything I would have wanted ! Nice garden and pool area, lighted at night; restaurant has terrace so you can enjoy your meal outside - a perfect way to start a vacation in Myanmar !... more

Yes if the bed were a bit softer, the lock easier to open quietly and a bit less like a transit camp I'd give it 5 points, the great relaxed atmosphere is enhanced by the laid back colonial style and superb friendly staff and great food. A quiet city location set amongst the embassy quarter in this interesting safe city... more

Booked The Governor's Residence (formerly known as the Pansea Yangon) on the recommendation of a friend, via email. Received a response to our initial and subsequent emails quite promptly. We stayed 3 nights in early February 2007. Requested an early check-in, which the hotel acknowledged, but was not able to guarantee, however, on the day, I was able to check-in... more

Set in beautiful gardens in the embassy district, this hotel is a short taxi drive away from the centre of Yangon or the famous Shwedagon Pagoda. Our room featured wonderful polished teak wood floors and furniture, with stylish seating. At night the hotel gardens were decorated with lights and parasols. Golden carp and turtles swam in the ponds. A truly... more
