Winter Palace, built in 1886 on the Nile banks in a tropical garden is a magical experience of history luxury that hosted royalties and celebrities throughout the years. Winter Palace offers the mythical atmosphere with the modern decor comfort of a 5 star hotel. It is located in the city center, just minutes from Luxor Temple and the airport. We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur due to the construction work taking place nearby the hotel as of June 14 th 2008 for a period of 6 months. more » « less

The Old Winter Palace has some problems--the room decor is old--but overall it's charming, and the garden/pool area is just stunning. There is no gym--drag--but by the time you get back from the Valley of the Kings or Karnak, in the heat of summer anyway, you're not ready to work out. The concierge was not very helpful--the "expert Egyptologist" guide... more

At this hotel we were treated like royalty, perhaps it was because we were on our honeymoon, but as soon as we arrived it was simply jaw dropping, wow. As soon as you arrive and walk up the red carpeted staircase it becomes as if you have stepped back in time to an old victorian era. We were upgraded to... more

I was desperate to stay here to relive the Agatha Christie / Howard Carter heyday experience. On that score, this hotel was just about perfect. It was like a grand Victorian mansion, and it could have been totally transporting except for the metal detector you have to pass through next to the reception desk (it's like they had some kind... more

As a family of 5, we were given the presidential suite. The rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated. They provided many extra amenities to our room. We felt very pampered. The food was good at the pool. The restaurant in the hotel was fancy and would not allow my husband in unless he borrowed a jacket. He did, and the... more

We stayed here for 3 nights after a week on the Nile on the Oberoi Zahra boat (please get in touch for info about this amazing floating luxury). We loved this hotel. So pleased we stayed in the Old Winter Palace, not the New (though I believe the New is being knocked down, thank goodness, it's a carbuncle!). We had... more

Gorgeous relic of the Victorian era, 20 foot ceilings in the bedrooms, huge marble bathrooms and garden or Nile views. Maybe a tiny bit run down but no serious problems at all. If it’s faded glory, emphasize the glory, not the faded. If you are sensitive to noise, choose garden view - Luxonians spend much of their driving time on... more

I have just returned from a stay in the Old Wing of the Winter Palace in Luxor and I have to say - for me anyhow - it is somewhere to remember and hopefully return. The staff were very obliging and attentive to the needs of guests at all times - the room had a nice balcony with a view... more

I stayed at the Old Winter Palace for one night only as the prices are quite high. This hotel has a definite WOW factor, if you are into old world charm. The gardens are amazing, you could spend hours strolling around them. There are also a couple of swimming pools. I had a balcony room at the front of the... more

Only stayed one night after a Nile cruise and before going on to the Red Sea. So whether the hotel was good or bad didn't really matter much. But it turned out just to be average. The room with double bed we booked was two singles pushed together (as in Sofitel Sharm el Sheikh - see review there too) but... more

Had stayed in the Old Winter Palace 20 years ago pre Sofitel when it was wonderful (and cheap). So determined to see it again, we elected for a garden view room which our travel agent recommended (to avoid the noise from the Corniche). This was a mistake. The room was dark and the very small terrace didn't get much sun.... more
