The place is beautiful, old, colonial, hacienda-style, with courtyards and rooms upstairs and down. The rooms are decorated simply, but nicely...quite an oasis from busy Arequipa. Breakfasts are nice, too, overlooking the garden. BUT the rooms are NOT insulated, so you can hear everything your neighbor does and while my first room had a hot shower, the shower in the... more

The hotel interior decorations are lovely - full of local touches. On the walls are plenty of old objects attached - e.g. old water canisters, old irons etc. Quiet location, close to the center (walk of 10min). We only got a bit annoyed by the noisy hotel guests in the mornig - since the rooms are not very well insulated.... more

Read about this in Lonely Plant and looked at the reviews on here. The place totally amazed us. It was beautiful. The room was spacious and the bathroom was amazing. The colonial style of the hotel and the colours they use are just lovely. It really was like being in a monestry. Would definitely stay here again. Very convienient and... more

I chose this hotel because of the review in the Lonely Planet and was expecting to be disappointed. However this was an amazing hotel and I wish I could have stayed longer. The rooms were stunning - traditional peruvian architecture and kitted out with historical furniture and artifacts. The staff were friendly, and the location was convenient for the major... more

It is a very charming place and relative clean. We had a nice room although I heard that not all the rooms are so nice there. And very calm too. Well located. However, the older woman in the reception was unpleasant, the room was unprepared (the bulb in the little lamp not working, no towels) so we had to complain... more

We stayed here two nights in July, the rooms were huge, the water hot and the grounds were so cute. All of the rooms are a bit different, the staff is super helpful and really pleasant, the breakfast was good. I would stay here again with no second thought. more

This hotel was built in the 1500s and had been a monestary and had also been used as a private home at some point. The hotel (and the building built during this time) were built with the volcanic material that gives Arequipa the name "The White City." The hotel uses antique furnishings; each room is different and has a feel... more

I almost stayed here with my wife back in April but decided to switch to a different hotel because it was so cold. All the rooms have stone walls with no insulation and little heating and it felt especially cold given that we'd just come from Nazca. After I complained, they were kind enough to offer us a couple of... more

I stayed at Casa Del Melgar for two nights since other hotels were full. I stayed in room 111 for the first night which was alright. After a trip to the Colca Canyon I returned to this hotel and stayed in room 107 which was more like a prison cell than a hotel room. There wasn't a window and access... more

We stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon. We had originally planned to stay for only one night, but Arequipa was such an interesting city, and Melgar was such a great hotel, we stayed. Melgar is charming, clean, and has a very helpful staff. We just wandered around the hotel, marveling at the patios, courtyards, and colorful buildings. Our... more
