we booked this hotel because of the positive reviews, and the pictures in their web site..well dont be fooled by them, in fact this hotel was built in 1923 and it still the same way as it was! The lobby was pretty but once you start your journey to the rooms its another deal, 1 out of 2 elevators work... more

This hotel has amazing architecture, and the staff is quite helpful. However, the neighborhood is genuinely very unsafe, and its probably not worth staying here given that it is not much more money to stay in Miraflores neighboorhood which is dramatically safer. Especially at night. The central location IS nice during the daytime however. more

very impressive grand hotel needing some updating but can imagine what it was like in its glory days . Rooms good size, comfortable beds, outdated bathrooms but good shower . Location good on plaza san martin with a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Big negative is no air conditioning and it was quite warm when we were there but... more

This hotel is situated directly on one of the main squares in Peru, within easy distance of all the central tourist destinations. It is old and traditional, and looks extremely impressive (my taxi driver said it was one of the best hotels in Lima, and I have no doubt that after the newer resort hotels eg the Marriott etc, it... more

My wife and I went to Peru for a week and stayed at the Grand Bolivar for 1 day. We booked a day at the Grand Bolivar based on the Trip Advisor reviews and boy did we have a surprise waiting for us. Pros: 1) Cheap. Paid about $50 for a night. 2) The lobby and the exterior of the... more

The Grand Bolivar in Downtown Lima, Peru is an old hotel with character and charm. Although the hotel has seen better days, it has a rich and colorful history and is ideally located for daytime strolls to the Plaza de Armes and surrounding shops. Breakfast is minimal, the Pisco Sours great, but the staff at the Grand Bolivar is 5... more

Booked this hotel through LAN.com the airline we used. We had been advised against staying in downtown Lima, but, this Hotel is a gem dating back to the 1920's and it has class, charm and dignity. The biggest negative was the honking horns outside day and night. Sometimes the elevator didn't work. It was the most economical place we stayed on... more

The last time I stayed here was in 1965!!! Only one of the 8 entrances is in use. Only the bottom 2 floors are used. Pity as today tourists want aluminium and glass and the familiar large hotel chain carpet with familiar logos. If you go to YouTube and search for "Colectivo - Lima, Peru - May 2007" - This... more

We would have never considered this hotel given the reviews in the guidebooks about the dangerous area, but we did stay here one night when we returned from Cusco and had an unbelievable 6am flight the next day. We were not only pleasantly surprised, but downright shocked at how nice the hotel was. The room: We ordered the Junior suite... more

We chose this hotel on the basis of the atmosphere mentioned in previous reviews, and its close location to the central sights (we had a day to kill in Lima, and 2 nights). Certainly, the front lobby is gorgeous, with its stained glass domed ceiling. The staff were courteous and helpful. That´s about it. The room smelled musty and the... more
