If you're expecting 5-star chain hotels don't visit Luang Prabang. The hotels there are housed in beautiful old colonial villas and are charming, rather than with all the amenities. The Sala Prabang is opposite the Mekong and is in two beautiful buildings. The location is brilliant - in a quiet spot but a five-minute walk from the night market, local... more

Yes, this hotel is perfectly adequate in Laotian terms. But beware a few points NOT properly explained in any of the guides which recommend it. First it has two wings, ie two buildings about 75 metres apart on the same street. This gives it a slightly schizophrenic and un-managed feel. Secondly, although its certainly on the street that runs right... more

Gorgeous little hotel and a nice suprise. Great price. Great location. Baby friendly. Great service. If you have a baby.......you'll appreciate this hotel. For $50 or $60 per night (yes I know you can get things even cheaper than that) we had a wonderful stay. Everything was clean and nice. They don't normally have refrigerators in the room but we... more

I booked a room for 3 nights at the Sala Prabang in February 2008. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my reservations nearly a month before I was to arrive in Laos. Upon returning home from my trip to Cambodia, I found that I had been billed for the entire 3 nights--with the hotel insisting that I was told of their... more

This place is a little gem, stunning room, fantastic staff and great location overlooking the Mekong River. I really could not fault it at all; the only thing I would ask them would be to add at least one more computer terminal in the lobby because currently there is only one and if someone is sitting on it for hours... more

Totally overpriced. when the main building is full up, they stick you in one of the 2 annexes up the road. rooms are very poor and price high. AVOID! personal were very pleasant and helpful; breakfast was good. more

This is the second time we have stayed at the Sala Prabang and both time we haev been very happy there. Clean rooms, interesting decor, and great location. The breakfast is only OK, but the location on the banks of the Mekong is the perfect place to start the day. Sure enough the ground floor rooms at the front might... more

I had such high hopes for the Sala, and was so disappointed. If you're a solo traveler, make sure they don't stick you in the first-floor rooms, which don't begin to be worth the amount your paying for. When I asked for another room, I was told the place was full up. Funny then, that a couple that came in... more

We stayed in the Sala Prabang for three nights in November 2007. We chose this hotel based on the reviews found in Trip Advisor. The hotel is located on the river (but there is a street in between it and the hotel’s restaurant). So you really cannot see the river from the hotel room. Our room was a Mekong View... more

Stayed at Sala Prabang just before Christmas with my wife and 13 year old son. Luang Prabang in itself has created a sort of setting for the hotels there. The hotel itself is a converted shophouse facing the river (although you cannot actually see the river itself even with the rooms with balconies) divided into the old wing where the... more
