We also selected Como Shambhala after previous experience at a sister property - Umu in nearby Ubud. The setting high above the Ayung River is exquisite and its relative remoteness makes it ideal for those who wish to relax, rather than party - or get fit and get well. The professional staff were particularly impressive: I selected the optional "get... more

Our stay at the Como in Ubud was genuinely magical. The setting looks almost make-believe, it is so green and lush. The most extraordinary part of this resort is all the winding trails that take you throughout the grounds, through leafy overhangs, up sides of the mountains, down to the river, by waterfalls, up mossy stairs. The employees recommend having... more

We very carefully selected this hotel after previously staying at one of their sister resorts - Cocoa Island in the Maldives (paradise!). The initial walk to our room provided us with our first stunning glance of the sheer drop of rainforest and I literally welled up. The continuing beauty of the whole resort is amazing, you feel as though you... more

Stayed at the Como Shambhala Estate at Begawan Giri for 3 nights. We took the Deluxe Suite at the Wanakasa Residence ("forest in the mist") which is their most spectacular residence for us. We also had a look at all of the other beautiful and uniqe residences as well as the kind of boring and average villas. Wanakasa Residence looks... more

This was our second trip to Ubud and, having stayed in the middle of town (Komaneka Hotel; a wonderful experience, too), we decided to try the more remote location of the Ayung River. As I remembered seeing extraordinary photos of the old Begawan Giri in Architectural Digest in the '90's, decided to try its new incarnation. What a stunner! The... more

Went here for a babymoon and loved it. The service was outstanding from start to finish especially the effort they made getting us to the front of the lines at immigration which made a late night arrival in Denpasar so much less stressful. We were in the hotel not much more than an hour and a quarter after landing. During... more

We just did a weekend trip to Bali for 2 nights at Como Shambhala. Overall it was wonderful but there are a couple of things worth keeping in mind. The dispute with the neighbour ain't over - from 9am til 6pm Saturday there were 2 chainsaws going, which meant that sitting by the pool we couldn't hear each other talk... more

The plan was 3 nights pure endulgance and total relaxation and stress management. we took the whole Bayguta residance, an unbelivable hideaway, we looked forward for coming back to our residance and sitting down enjoying the rice fields view. The treatements were ok ( on pricey side of Bali) but yet enjoyable. The Yoga classes were outstanding a must do.... more

This place is an experience of a lifetime. It's MUCH better than any of the photographs show. The resort offers so many pleasant activities and the ambiance--at one with nature and luxury--is sublime!!! I spent my birthday there and was travelling alone and LOVED the pampering and welcome that the resort gave. I stayed in an Estate room the HOUSE... more

What a beautiful resort Como Shambhala is ! We stayed for 4 nights in Umabono Residence and rate it as our favourite property in Bali (and this was our 6th visit, having stayed in many high-end properties across those visits). The grounds are beautiful - spending a leisurely morning reading in a bale next to the spring-fed rock pools down... more
