Terrible welcome: room not ready, took away passport (for 2 hours for registration, they said!) and wouldn't give it back until we made a fuss, waiter was rude (we were waiting for a table, he came and asked how he can help us, I said we would like to have lunch, and he replied "Who's not letting you?" !!) ...... more

I agree with most reviewers. Hotel was clean, rooms were fine but nothing special. Lobby unattractive, food unexciting, just adequate. It is not centrally located. Beyond not being centrally located, traffic jams make it impossible to breeze in and out from the city center. Metro is a possible solution, however, for those without wheels. Stores nearby for water, nosh. Can't... more

I am a travel agent and went on a self organised educational to Russia. The Andersen Hotel was offered to me via a local tour operator in Cape Town who in turn booked it through Intourist. The hotel was clean, no problem there but whoever designed that hotel did so without any imagination. The lobby is rather drab and unwelcoming.... more

When planning our trip to St. Petersburg, I went through the reviews of travellers on this website about St. Petersburg hotels. What struck me, was, that nearly all the big medium class hotels from former Soviet era got terrible reviews concerning staff attitudes and service. All the reviewers about hotel Andersen wrote only good things about service and staff attitudes.... more

Hotel was clean, modern and staff were friendly and helpful. Room was perfectly adequate but location at rear of hotel meant some building noise from construction site next door. Rooms to the front of the hotel are quieter. Breakfast was fairly basic. Location is the major drawback in my opinion. Hotel is in a residential area 10 minutes walk (along... more

We stayed at Hotel Andersen for 3 nights, mainly because it was the cheapest deal on the booking website we used. The walk from the metro station to the hotel was too far if you are carrying a large rucksack but it wasn't too bad otherwise. If you intend spending a lot of time in the city it might be... more

We've found this hotel here, at Trip Advisor. At the beggining, we were a little afraid because the price was lower than the others (but it was the most expensive we could pay). It is a simple hotel, like an Ibis, but with a good breakfast included and something that is really important (and not common) in Russia: the staff... more

We stayed 4 nights and were very pleased with the helpful service provided by the reception staff. They gave us information on how much we should pay for taxis, telephone cards etc. The rooms/bathrooms were clean and well presented proving to be good value. The hotel is situated in a quiet location and has the benefit of windows that open.... more

I stayed with my husband for only night. We arrived at 10 AM after travelling from Moscow by train, and we were able to check in at that time with no extra-charge. THIS WAS GREAT. The location is not that good, about 15 minutes from the subway. The room was very small (double standard), very clean and new furniture. Breakfast... more

This is a standard western style hotel set just outside the city centre. It is modern and has all necessary facilities. The rooms are not large but they are clean and well furnished. They have limited satellite TV and no tea/coffee making facilites in the rooms. Rooms are made up daily and linen changed every three days. The reception staff... more
