This hotel is just really good value for central Kyoto. Staff was very friendly and helpful even when faced with some of our more complicated requests. Guests can choose between western and Japanese breakfast, served in different restaurants in the hotel; we tried both and would recommend the latter. Frankly I don't understand why this hotel is rated as 'one... more

Hotel Gimmond is a comfortable little hotel along Oike Street, about 1 block from the Karasumaoike Station (turn right when you get out of the station). The staff was friendly and able to answer most questions. Nijo Castle is just a short walk west and all the shopping/bazaar shops are just south of the hotel. The room we reserved had... more

Kyoto is a BEAUTIFUL place! And this hotel is so japanesy and cute! Even the vending machine on the 2nd floor selling drinks and beer! So nice! I arrived late at night and the staff were very prompt to check me in. No deposit required and I was eager to get in my room. The room is small, almost cramped,... more

Hotel Gimmond is a few minute walk from a subway stop and close to several restaurants and shops. The transport system is great so if you don’t want to walk you can get to anywhere by bus or subway. If you take a laptop you can get free internet in the room. The room was fairly small but comparable to... more

We recently stayed at the Hotel Gimmond for two nights. The location was very close to the subway, but it's not quite as good if you want to catch the bus, which goes to most of the places we wanted to see. The room we had needed updating pretty badly, but it was fine for the two nights were there. more

We stayed here for 6 nights during a stay in Kyoto, a mixture of a work trip, for my partner and a birthday treat for me. It was our first ever trip to Japan and the Gimmond proved to be a good choice of base for the week. The Hotel is easily found, and is located next to the main... more

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights on a recent visit to Kyoto. We booked on the hotel website for about $100/night for a shared double bed. The hotel is in a great location on a wide street with broad sidewalks and good lighting - a very short walk to downtown restauants and nightlife, a little longer walk... more

This hotel is well located on a spacious boulevard near the subway lines and within walking distance of many of Kyoto's central sights. The small, but adequate rooms are perhaps a tad bigger than most Japanese business hotels. The staff was friendly and helpful with just enough English. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 teenage girls. The... more

The Gimmond is a business hotel that also caters to a lot of tourists. It is moderately priced (around $100 a night). Rooms are small but clean. Beds are comfortable. Windows open and air conditioning is easy to adjust. Towels a bit thin but complete amenities are offered, including yukatas and slippers. Internet access is available via Ethernet (bring your... more

A friend who lives nearby booked this hotel for my brother and me for one night while we visited our friend. My friend went to a lot of trouble calling business hotels (i.e., small room, no frills, but inexpensive and well-located) to find a room for us with two beds. We could have stayed elsewhere for less if we'd been... more
