We travelled with a group of our friends to our son's wedding in Tokyo, and then all went to Kyoto for four days. I'd made arrangements at the Apa Kyoto Gion Hotel as I'd stayed there ten years ago and liked the location. The hotel staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and, though compact, we felt that for Japan,... more

With this hotel, our main aim was location. The apa gion is in a great location - from our hotel room we could see both modern Kyoto and old Kyoto - it was beautiful. It was a nice area too - heaps to look at, heaps to do. Also, this hotel has a starbucks downstairs which is a godsend to... more

We booked our room here through hotelclub.com and paid 16,470 Yen or about $164 a night (rate did not include breakfast). My husband and I were very happy with our stay. The room isn't luxurious and was the smallest that we'd stayed in during our trip, but the location was great and the room had everything that one would need.... more

The room was small and the bathroom looked really outdated but it's a great little hotel if you intend to be out sightseeing the whole day. It's perfectly situated in the Gion district, the old part of Kyoto, and in front of a bus stop. The staff were very kind and helpful. The breakfast was Japanese style buffet, with miso... more

This is a 3-star hotel at best; the rooms are small, but mine was clean and had a few basic amenities – soap, shampoo, hair dryer, mini-fridge. The room had French doors that opened far enough to offset the fickle temperature control, and a nice view of Gion and the mountains. The bathroom was tiny and worn, one of those... more

I stayed here for 3 nights. The room had very nice furnishings. Since it is the tallest building in the area it had a good view of the Gion area. Also, since this is the only hotel in the Gion area the access is excellent. Many temples, nice restaurants nearby. When it was raining the front desk even lent me... more

Kyoto is a must for a visitor to Japan and this little hotel was perfect for our stay. After reading tripadvisor reviews, we selected this hotel because of its location. We were in the middle of the traditional district and yet the modern Japan was never far away. The walks at night down lanterned lanes, past traditional restaurants and seeing... more

This is a good hotel in a perfect location for Kyoto. By chance, there was Gion Matsuri when I stayed in the hotel and the parade began nearly in front of the hotel! The breakfast was fine, the staff was friendly. Although the single room I stayed in was small, that's what to expect in Japan. Still I wonder how... more

The only positive thing about this hotel is the location. It is in a perfect location to see all of Gion (which is particularly lovely at night) and to get too all the spots of interest. We booked online through APA -- which is separate from the hotel, as we later learned when we tried to change our reservation. The... more

The hotel is a pretty standard three-four star international hotel. The reception is on the second floor up which is a little disconcerting, the ground floor being occupied by a Starbucks café. The huge advantage of this hotel is the area, especially if you count on staying a few days in Kyoto. You leave the hotel, walk down the street,... more
