We stayed at this nice Ryokan for 2 nights in early September, as we wanted to experience the Japanese style accommodation. The staff was very friendly, the hotel was quite nice and the room was very clean. The hotel itself was not exactly a palace, meaning that the web site definitely gives it a bit more posh feel than it... more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Nishiyama. The japanese style room was large and spacious with neverending hot water, tea and sweet treats. It was refreshing to have space for our bags and the room didn't smell of smoke. The public baths were a fantastic way to end a long day of sightseeing and it seemed we always... more

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Nishiyama during winter and stayed in a Japanese style room. The room was larger than any of the western style rooms we'd stayed in (but then again, it was a lot more expensive) but the bathroom was just as small. The lobby and dining room are beautiful, but the rooms and surrounding areas are... more

For its price, we were a bit disappointed. We booked a double room with private bath and toilet. The lobby is impressive, location is convenient, but the room itself was a letdown. Hallways needed new carpeting and the overall feel of the hotel (excluding the lobby) was rundown. When you enter the double room, what greets you is a sink... more

They served nice food. The Japanese rooms are clean and simple but rather old. They provide very very basic toiletries, so be more prepared. The location is all right, a little way out but still walkable to the livelier areas. It will be hard to grope in the dark when it turns dark quickly during fall or winter as the... more

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of July 2007. Found it from the accommodation desk in the tourist information place in the station. The rooms are nicely sized (the japanese style are bigger but cost Yen2,000 more a night). We stayed 3 nights in japanese style and 1 in Western style. Cost is about Yen12,000- Yen 14,000 a... more

I've stayed at the Hotel Nishiyama twice now - once April 2007 for Cherry Blossom season and August 2006. Advantages: The staff speaks excellent English. It is located central from Gion, Arashiyama, Imperial Palace and from the Kyoto station. Only a 3-4 minute walk from a subway stop. It is also walking distance to the main shopping arcade and restaurant... more

We stayed at the Nishiyama for our 4 night stay in Kyoto in January 2006. It was very easy to find thanks to the map on its website that we printed out before we left. The hotel is very close to a subway station and also to buses to do some sight-seeing. We arrived before check-in time and it was... more

The ryokan was situated in one of Kyoto’s many quaint side streets about two blocks from Shiyakusho-mae subway station on the Tozai subway line. The map that was available on the Internet was accurate and led us straight to the ryokan. Upon arrival, the reception staff were warm and friendly, and told us all we needed to know about the... more

This was the only ryokan I could find with room in Kyoto at the end of July. I was very suspicious of it as it had an advert on google. However although the ryokan room was lacking in character and rather dull, it was a decent size. The communal bathrooms were fine, and mostly empty. Free internet was provided. The... more
