My wife and I agree that Owner Handy Withers is the finest host we've encountered over many years of travel. Handy's supremely elegant touch and world-class hospitality make this a must-see and stay stop for all visitors to Salvador. The staff were courteous, the suite accomodations sublime, and handy's brunch and late night martinis are superb. Don't miss out on... more

We (my wife and I) stayed here in July 2006, but I forgot to share my thoughts until now. This is without doubt one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in, helped in no small part by the presence of the most welcoming host you can imagine. I won't go into repeating the detail everyone else has written... more

We are four ladies (no longer in the flush of youth) who stayed at Handy's home from home hotel, for three nights, in late January. We were a little perturbed at the surroundings of the hotel when we first arrived but upon entering this oasis, in what can only be described as a run down area, we felt at peace. We... more

People should be warned about the location of this hotel. Far from being “situated in one of the most celebrated squares in the historic district” (as stated on the hotel website) it is approx 1km from the old town centre and in a very run-down area. Having asked advice from our local guide about the safety of walking back from... more

I am a high maintance frequent traveler, so my standards are VERY high. This place is a jewel, each room has a theme, with wonderful little "touchs" that make a difference (the quality of the soap and lotion are equivalent to any 5 star US hotel), everytime I left my room, when I came back, the room had been refreshed.... more

A beautiful boutique hotel, with great attention to detail, comfortable, elegant and good breakfast. The room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff (although didn’t speak any English) were very smiley, friendly and very accommodating. A great breakfast was served under a large awning at the back of the hotel. The lounge area was bedecked with pictures... more

We had a great time in Salvador. We had heard that Salvador can be dangerous, but we didn't experience that at all. We were careful about not wearing fancy jewelry or watches, and found the colonial city to be just beautiful. Handy, the proprietor of the hotel was amazingly hospitiable, and the hotel was just beautiful. Breakfast was excellent and... more

A wonderful hotel with a real old world charm. A real gem in an off the beaten path location. The attention to detail is obvious and the owner himself (Handy) makes the experience a true delight. This ia a total immersion into the culture and philosophy of Salvador and it's people. more

What a wonderful hotel, yes it is in a rundown area, but I've been to much worse in many parts of the world and what you're seeing is the true Brazil. The hotel is absolutely amazing, so beautifully decorated, and you are looked after by the owner immaculately. The owner advised that we should take a taxi everywhere but we walked... more

Handy is working hard to provide travelers a unique hotel experience. I think people who enjoy travel should be willing to put up with having to take a taxi from this beautiful hotel to the other exciting and unique parts of the city (the Pelourinho on a Tuesday night is not to be missed). It really is not that much... more
