This hotel is nothing like it use to be years ago. It has worn poorly and there have been no significant upgrades. The rugs are old, musty and dirty appearing. Our room had a bathtub that was disgusting, no one had taken a brush to it in years. We had cockroaches. The beds are a joke. They are twin beds,... more

We did an RCI exchange. I read the other reviews on this site so I was a bit hesitant to book however I had several time share weeks banked so I decided to take it. The hotel was packed with South American tourists so it is a very popular place. The room was very basic but it did have a... more

Maybe it was the Brazilian air traffic controllers' strike that started me on a bad foot, or the 24 plus hours without sleep when arriving. But the first room (of 3!) almost had me packing again. The carpet was threadbare and matted looking (we dared not let our feet touch it). The dark paneled walls didn't help either. After calling... more

My mom and I just returned from 5 nights in marvelous Rio and had a very pleasant experience at the Othon Palace. True, it is nowhere near being a 5 star property, but for the deal we got through Skyauction.com it was just fine. I was really worried after reading the reviews that it would be a dump, but when... more

Found it through Lonely Travel guide, called directly and booked, and stayed for 2 weeks. The location is fantastic, and the views are great, but that's about it. The price is ridiculous, the service is bad and slow, and my room had cocroaches, ants, and other bugs. If you want to stay on Copacabana, you can find much cleaner places... more

We stayed there for 3 nights. Great location in Copacabana. The standard room had some problems: old carpets, window didn't close properly, bad matress, terrible toilet with an old stained mirror, black spots of humidity on the ceeling, taps which didn't close, bath tub was dirty.I would not recommend this hotel. I would give 2*! Unfortunately, I didn't take any... more

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days in march. we had to wait close to 45 mins to check in cos they had only one person checking guests in. We were staying in a superior room with a full ocean view. The view was great everything else sucked. The room was on the 8th floor and looked like... more

Don't go to Rio and if You must-please don't stay at the Rio Othon Palace. First let Me say Rio is a beautiful area but the Copacabana area (surrounding the hotel) is full of muggars, pickpockets, hookers locals urinating anywhere street/sidewalk, between cars/beach-disgusting. Do not wear any jewelry or carry a pocketbook (within the 1st 2hrs a 10yr old boy... more

The Rio Othon is a bit like me, old and tired but not without its charms and all it's bits work. We stayed over Carnival and were given, without asking and at 11am, a huge suite on 27th floor. To be sure the decor is brown painted bricks and the carpet apeared to be made of recycled asbestos but it... more

There is nothing wrong with this hotel. I feel that if you want the best of the best you should be paying for it. We payed US$150 per night which included Breakfast and a 4 course dinner nightly. We were also given a room on the 23rd floor which are their renovated rooms. The only thing I disliked was that... more
