On a whim and without prior notice, I drove from Tamarindo to Arenal to visit the volcano and rain forest. After an enjoyable and interesting four hour drive, I was anxious to find a decent place to stay for two nights. After stopping to tour several different hotel/resort properties in the Arenal area, I decided to stay at Montana de... more

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting arenal and the hot springs. Was quite cloudy so we didn't see Volcano from the hotel as we thought. 1st room we were taken to which was the basic room was more like a prison room and I had to move straight away to a suite which was much better. Had a jacuzzi... more

This place is wonderful! My mom and I stayed here for part of our trip to Costa Rica and I highly recommend it to anyone staying in the Arenal area. The property is beautiful, with a great pool, spa and restaurant. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful when we booked trips away from the hotel. There... more

We arrived at the Arenal area and headed for the Hotel Montaña De Fuego since we have read some positive reviews on this website. We did not have reservations. We just drove in and asked to see their available rooms and they were happy to oblige. We opted for the Junior Suite at $171 per night taxes included. There were... more

While traveling with another couple, we booked two of the premier rooms at Montana de Fuego. Although we had 2 rooms booked, they did not place us near each other, which was bothersome. The view of the volcano is spectacular, assuming it's not cloudy and the volcano is actually visible! It was cloudy much of the time we were there,... more

Just got back from a trip to CR and would like to echo others' comments. This is a nice place to stay, pretty nice grounds, good location...the rooms have safes but no clocks....like everywhere in CR, waiters work on "tico time" and disappear for long periods but that's just part of the experience -- heck, you're on vacation, stop counting... more

This is definitely a 3 star hotel. That being said, I didn't expect opulent luxury or extreme comfort, but I did expect a clean room and competent service. The room was well-worn, but clean. The service level of the staff, however, left a lot to be desired. On the positive side, the grounds were beautiful and well maintained and there... more

I would say given the relative choices for accomodations in the area that Montana de Fuego was a pretty good option. I would say the property is quite nice looking and in a great location, but that the staffing could be better. I thought the front desk was below average. It ticked me off that me and my friend were... more

I read some reviews...but i have not seen what was bad about this hotel. its very private as you get your own bungalow. its got a/c shower everything a hotel needs, and you need to remember its a BUNGALOW not a holliday inn or sheraton. its made out of wood, and while its not cold if you want to get... more

While the staff were congenial and we had plenty of square feet, our room right on the highway felt more like a Best Western than a jungle lodge. I admit it rained for our entire 3 day stay, so we didn't glimpse the volcano which we were told was right on the other side of the highway. Mostly the rained... more
