This hostel has something special (and intangible) going for it. The staff are friendly but don't bend over backwards to service you. The rooms are clean (exceptionally so for a hostel) and done up in cheerful patterns that give them some personality. The bathrooms are clean too. There are signs everywhere asking tenants to help out. There are communal dinners... more

Let me state from the start that this is the first hostel I've used. One of the reviews below says that "city slickers" probably wouldn't like it. I don't consider myself a city slicker, but am well-traveled (Europe, Africa, and US) and like a certain level of cleanliness and orderliness. So--that's my bias. I booked the hostel because I was... more

Stayed at the hostel a few weeks before Christmas, 2006. Accomodations are average as far as hostels go. I would not say stellar, by any means, but the price is right. The only private rooms have a shared bath, which is not the greatest. No TV in the private room - though there is one in the common area. (There... more

I highly recommend the tour of the Everglades run out of the Everglades Hostel in Florida city. The tour is run in 3 parts: walking, walking through the Everglades and canoeing. It costs $60 if booked ahead and $80 for walk-ins. The guides on the trip were truly excellent and we were able to see alligators and crocodiles at very... more

We brought a group of 17 (yes, 17!) to this hostel for a weekend of relaxation and adventure, and were more than pleased with Owhnn's amazing place. The hostel is an old (1930's?) two-story building, warrenlike and full of twists and turns and tiny rooms. The bathrooms were old (cool!) but clean, and the window units in our two rooms... more

Definitely a unique place with a very bohemian feel. Nature lovers and ex-hippies will adore it...city slickers and frat boys may not. In other words, it's style will not be for everyone. Our private room was very pleasant and clean, and the bathrooms are clean and roomy. The common areas, particularly the gardens, were great. Canoe rentals were a bargain.... more

I can't recommend this hostel highly enough. Ownhh and the staff and volunteers made us feel really welcome and at home; the accommodation was fantasically clean, beautifully decorated and liberally embellished with quirky artefacts and artworks galore, and the magical garden is full of fascinating nooks and crannies to explore - there's a yoga/meditation/drumming room, a giant chess board, a... more

I stayed a the Everglades Hostel over Christmas, 2002. I have stayed in lots of hostels, but this was one of the best. The attractions are not right there, but it is a great place to meet up with other hostelers and form groups to go to the Everglades, Keys, etc. The Hostel also runs guided tours, but I did... more
