Do NOT stay at the Abbey! The room is uncomfortable and awkward, the property is run down, the breakfast is bad, but it is the host who is really awful. Even if the price seems low, don’t do it! We booked on line only to receive a rude phone call the next day telling us that we couldn’t have the... more

Even genteel Victorian Cape May isn't immune from everyday woes. I first visited Cape May in its preservation heyday over a quarter century ago, and I was disheartened that the modern world has encroached upon this charming seaside resort. I've long been enamored of The Abbey, and felt fortunate that I was able to find a room available at the... more

The Abbey, although in a great location and beautiful to look at from the outside is quite run down and not cared for. My husband and I went for a few days to get away. I can do without TVS and modern conveniences, but having stayed at other B&B's expected a little more than what we received for the price.... more

After reading some less-than-pleased reviews, I was apprehensive about going to the Abbey with my boyfriend to spend a few days. However, what was booked was booked and we set out with the determination to make the best of it. It is true that the place is in need of repairs, but it is not bad enough for me to... more

The Abbey is located right in the heart of Cape May and is only a couple block from the beach and about the same distance to exciting shopping and many of the Cape's night-time entertainment and dining choices. The Inn staffer we met "Jay", wore a captain's hat and appeared to be a friendly old salt. The Inn-keepers made a... more

My daughter booked two nights at The Abbey for a "mini" vacation and invited me to join her since she knows I love the beach and we have spent many summers vacationing in Cape May since she was child. I have stayed in other B&B's in Cape May and elsewhere and this was not the best experience. Although the house... more

In colonial times, the term "Ordinary" was defined as an inn that provided meals. Nowadays, "ordinary" American travelers expect much more than just a bed and a breakfast...they want satellite TV, wi-fi, jacuzzi tubs, arcade rooms, pools, saunas, etc...in other words, a generic 21st-century motor hotel experience in which you can't tell where in the world you are...but at least... more

My husband and I just came back from a wonderful two night stay at The Abbey. We had a great time. First let me say if you are looking for a cookie-cutter B&B with that still reeks of drywall and new paint then this is not your place. If however, you are looking for an authentic and truly unique experience... more

I wanted a nice weekend for my husband and myself to celebrate our one year wedding anniversay, and to visit Cape May. I thought staying at a bed and breakfeast would be great, but I was wrong. First I should have guessed why this was the only place available in Cape May, and why Jay was the first to respond... more

The husband and I stayed here over my birthday weekend back in October 2006. I could not have asked for a better weekend, and imho, we could not have chosen a more perfect inn than the Abbey. We stayed in the New Orleans room. The bedroom was spacious, comfortable, clean and decorated with lovely period pieces, including a glorious four... more
