We travel a lot. We had become rather cynical about what to really expect after many disappointments, especially in Mexico. Then we experienced this little gem. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The rooms were beautiful, very comfortable, well done and well maintained. It was clear they were meticulously restored - no short cuts and... more
Patzcuaro was the high point of our trip to Mexico, in part due to the lovely environment and our gracious hosts at the Casa de la Real Aduana. Originally the royal customs house for traders traveling from the west coast to Mexico City, the Casa de la Real Aduana has been beautifully restored, giving the visitor a sense of the... more
I have traveled throughout Mexico for nearly three decades and I cannot recall having visited a hotel that managed to combine warmth and elegance the way that Gemma and Didier have at Casa de la Real Aduana. The rooms are beautiful, but the real treat for your eyes is to explore the house--a Royal Customs House from the 1540s--that has... more
We stayed at Casa de la Real Aduana again after staying there the first time in 2005. It is even more wonderful than before - the garden plantings have grown in more and are more beautiful than before. The owners have a great eye for art and design -- and there is more extraordinary art than before. The breakfasts are... more
This is hands-down the best place to stay in Patzcuaro. The owners have restored this 16th century home to retain the authenticity of the period, while providing every comfort and amenity imaginable. Wireless internet is available in the lovely courtyard, although such lovely surroundings encourage anyone to "disconnect" while in Pátzcuaro. The home and rooms are filled with exquisite art,... more
Sadly, we only got to spend one night in Casa de la Real Aduana, we really could have stayed quite a while. It is a luxurious yet relaxed place, wonderfully renovated to preserve all the charms of an old hacienda if you will but with tasteful and modern amenities/conveniences. It is located literally around the corner from the Plaza Grande,... more
This is absolutely the best place to stay in the Patzcuaro area! It is located in a colonial mansion; our room was marvellously decorated with period antiques, lovely linens...totally top of the line. The mansion has a delightful central patio, filled with plants and interesting artifacts; a great place to relax and read a book. Our hosts, Didier and Gema... more
This intimate 5-room establishment ranks amongst the finest small hotels my wife and I have ever stayed at during our extensive travels around the world. Our hosts, Gemma and Didier, could not have been more gracious, their taste in furnishings is superb, and their staff is both attentive and unobtrusive. We were fortunate to have stayed here over a weekend.... more
We stayed here during a 3-week trip to Mexico. Definitely one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Only a few rooms, but, absolutely, the height of taste and luxury. Can't thing of anything more to say - perfect! We will return. (Gemma and Didier - gracias!) more
