My best friend and I had a very nice stay at the Rutledge during our girl's long weekend away. We were in the room just off the lobby and dining room, but noise was not a problem. The beds were comfy, and the private bathroom was spacious. The staff at the B&B were kind, and we quickly felt at home.... more

What a lucky find. I have never been to Charleston before, selected this inn by chance. The house is lovely. Packed with Victorian stuff that must be a nightmare to keep clean but adds to the atmosphere. Breakfast was more than adequate. Lynn and staff very obliging and helpful. I felt that I was being treated as a friend rather... more

WHERE DO I BEGIN??...... the part where the owners got my name totally wrong and werent there to greet me upon check in, the part where the place was crawling with bugs and spiders, the part where my room was about as big as a jail cell, THE PART WHERE SHE ATTEMPTED TO TOW OUR CAR WHEN WE WERE TOLD... more

We wouldn't agree with the statement that this B & B is in the downtown historic district. It's a pretty long walk to most of what you want to see. The place is in bad need of cosmetic(?) fix up. Doesn't seem to be maintained very well. We agree with the review mentioning something about the Munsters. You'd think that... more

The onwer, Lynn and her "friend" were beyond rude to our family. We booked two rooms for two nights for four adults and one child, six beds in all. We were forced to pay a surcharge for our child with the owners making threats and nasty demands. The danishes and breakfast muffins were cut into three peices, and their was... more

While the house itself is a nice Victorian with a wrap-around porch, every square inch of the rooms have been decorated with Victorian "things". All of the lamps in the guest rooms have 40 watt bulbs and heavy shades which make the room like a cave and makes reading impossible. The shower is very small. Check-in can take a long... more

The house was very cute and the room we stayed in was quite comfortable. However, we were very displeased that we were there 4 days and never met the owner. She was in town and staying on the property but never made an appearance. Martha, one of the staff members was extremely nice and helpful. Breakfast each morning was good... more

I actually am struggling with writing a negative review, but I know how travelers check trip advisor before booking an accommodation. We booked the Sarah Suite and thought that it would be wonderful to have the third floor to ourselves and more than a bed to sit on. What a poor decision that I made! The Sarah Suite is VERY... more

The inn was really cute. I'm not a big fan of cats...and they had quite a few. They even had framed pictures of them on the mantel. :) The staff was great though. It's ran by a few woman that are just so incredibly hospitable. Everything is decorated with that old vitorian feel. This is an old builing ( Like... more

We have been to Charleston numerous times before, staying at inns and hotels and love this city! The Rutledge Victorian (not to be confused with the John Rutledge) is a bit of a (pleasant) walk to the center of things, but it's in a lovely neighborhood in which we enjoyed running and rollerblading and looking at the beautiful homes. This... more
