This is a lovely alternative to a chain hotel at just a slightly higher cost. The Casa de Palmas is an older building in downtown McAllen that has been renovated in Spanish style, with a graceful lobby and an inner courtyard with pool, fountain and lots of seating. Nice bar in the lobby. We paid a little extra for a... more

I always thought of Marriott's Renaissance brand as "a cut above", but this property should not be allowed to use the Renaissance name. Call it something else, since it is a far cry from luxurious. "Charming" translates into "built in 1920 and not renovated very often" and "quaint" translates into "we are a non-smoking property but there are ashtrays on... more

The Casa de Palmas is a good option in a market with limited options. The historic property's good aspects outweigh the not so good. Overall the structure and furnishings are a little worn. However the unique design and layout of the property make up for it. The beds have new linens (not evident on the hotel website) and nice bathrooms.... more

I stayed at the Renaissance Casa de Palmas Hotel for three nights attending a work function. (4/20-4/22) The hotel is very close to the airport making an the travel arrangements easy. Upon check in I asked if they had any rooms available with a balcony. The gentleman said a balcony would cost $40 more than the price of the room... more

We stayed at the Casa De Palmas Hotel in McAllen over the Labor Day weekend for 1 night and had a nice time! There really isn’t too much to do in McAllen however and the hotel isn’t exactly in an area where there is much to see by foot. See 10 photos I took of the hotel/room. We paid $99... more

OK, I came here for a wedding and the webpage and pictures were really setting me up to expect a luxurious, quaint and historic hotel. Historic- yes...my standard of luxury would put me comfortable at typical Renaissance hotels, and even though tripadvisor marks this as a 3-star, and some other true Renaissance hotels in other locations would garner a 4-star... more

My husband and I stayed here while he was on business. I loved everything about this hotel and the price is excellent for what you get. First, the grounds are gorgeous - plants, palm trees, fountains, etc. beautiful. We stayed in a courtyard room for $139 - pay the extra money for a courtyard room. I loved sitting out on... more

For a 3 star hotel, this hotel was actually very nice. The rooms and bathrooms are a bit small, but we didn't mind. We were only there for one night for a wedding. Check-In -This hotel isn't a very busy hotel, therefore, check in was a breeze. Rooms -The beds were so comfortable. Probably one of the most comfortable hotel... more

I love this hotel! I have stayed here frequently for business, and my most recent stay lived up to the outstanding visits of the past. I travel frequently for business and usually stay in 4- or 5-star hotels, most typically Four Seasons. I never expected to find such a great hotel in a city the size of McAllen. The hotel... more

This hotel has a Texas Historical Marker out front. It was built in 1918. It is absolutely beautiful, and very romantic. The staff are top-notch from the desk to the restaurant and housekeeping staff. It is also supposed to be haunted! We didn't see any ghosts, however. You really get the feel of being in old Mexico. Try to get... more
