“The Bates Motel!”

The only thing nice about this place was the sign outside! Very shabby outside, needs nails, hammers and a lot of paint! It even has a ravine right behind it! It scared the heck out of me. We stayed at the Auberge this past winter. With one child in college and another headed there shortly, we looked for a place near Stowe that could accomodate the 4 of us, but wouldn't cost a fortune. In a town where $20 restaurant entrees are the norm, Auberge de Stowe is one incredible value. And a super friendly one, at that. We cannot say enough good things about Shawn & Chantal. Their B&B is perfect for a rustic Vermont experience. You feel like an exchange student staying in a family house. They are so warm and helping.... more

Our Florida-born kids (5 and 7) had never seen snow, so I booked a holiday weekend stay in Stowe, VT. I was looking for economy, and a place where I didn't have to rent a car and drive in snow--within walking distance of restaurants and attractions. The price is not commensurate with the level of service provided. The rooms were clean and basic--certainly not above average or exceptional. Breakfast was chinsy. The common areas are in serious need of dusting. The hot tub was clean, functioning and well-maintained. Don't go over $50 per night. more
