A dear friend of ours had a wonderful history in Opera. Her voice thrilled us during many performances. She died in 2006 and we asked her husband to join us for a trip of remembrance and celebration. The history of the opera in this house was excellent for reflection and memory. The home is grand and you can imagine the... more

Stayed there in October, 2007. My advice if you are thinking about it – “don’t.” Sincere, well-meaning, honest staff – that’s the only thing good about the place. (Although there is no staff there after 7 at night so when our bed frame fell apart there was nothing to do but drag the mattress onto the floor.) The place is... more

We stayed at the Chateau Tivoli with our two teenage sons for three nights in July. We arrived late at night and by agreement had been given instructions for entry - there is no staff in the evenings. Our suite was as described - functional. It was in the basement and felt fairly basic, although adequate for our needs. In... more

We stayed at the Chateau Tivoli as part of a 2 week trip around California and found the property just beautiful, the old house was lovingly maintained with antique furniture as it would have done in the early 1900's. The service was flawless and the breakfasts fantastic consisting of fresh patiseries, bagels, smoked salmon, fresh juice and in the afternoons... more

We stayed in the Mark Twain suite for four nights on our Honeymoon....how amazing! For this money you couldn't get hotel rooms just the size of the bedroom itself! Not to mention the whole awesome spectacle of the house itself, or the rest of the suite! We played chess on the huge board, sat in the turret looking out on... more

If you want to stay in one of the most beautifully appointed B&Bs in S.F. then you must stay at the Chateau Tivoli! For a birthday treat my partner and I, whose birthdays are one day apart, treated ourselves to a night stay at this inn and were blown away by the setting and the staff. The antiques throughout this... more

Our family stayed in 4 rooms at this wonderful SanFran B&B. Jonathan and Meredith were superb hosts, giving a family touch to our wedding/reunion 5 days! We were able to use the cozy parlor for an extended wine and cheese session, with Jonathan sparking up the fireplace for that homey feeling! They even took positions at both ends of the... more

Although we stayed in the Lillie Langtry suite in the basement, we had an opportunity to visit most of the rooms, and overall were somewhat less than impressed. Dripping water pipes, falling plaster, stained carpets and disintegrating exterior did nothing to add to the "ambiance". The weekday breakfast was strictly help-yourself continental, and the service was almost non-existent. This was... more

The Chateau Tivoli was wonderful on the inside, but somewhat neglected on the outside. Enjoyed our stay and the staff was very nice and helpful. Three notes - this is not a 'traditional' B&B run by the owners. This facility is run like a small hotel (no staff after 8 PM). Stayed in the Aimee Crocker and the shower (no... more
