Our stay was rather frustrating. The hotel is poorly run and I wonder if anybody cares about the guests. The front desk is only open between 10 am and 5pm, exactly when people are outside visiting the park, the rest of the time there is nobody. We knew it won’t be something luxury, but the hotel condition exceeded all our... more

This place is for people who travel for adventure, not for luxuries or comforts. We had a great time staying here. It was quiet, clean and a little strange. Take some time to relax on the porch, see the theatre, and watch the video in the dining room. Watch the sunset and watch the stars. The place is operated with... more

I read a few of the reviews on here before booking this hotel, and even without having seen the place, I realised that the majority just don't get what this place is all about! It's obvious from the website/pictures that the hotel is a run-down, historic building in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not sure what a lot of... more

The hotel lobby was interesting, as was the concept of an operating Opera House in the middle of "nowhere" (we happened to stay on a performance night). But, I wouldn't recommend staying overnight here unless you're into a lot of atmosphere and not into comfort. The bed was squeaky, wobbly, uncomfortable, and small. The paint is peeling, and the grout... more

One can hardly rate the Amargosa Hotel on scales. Being there is so unique, ratings 1-5, for example, are hardly sufficient. Going there was an experience I'll never forget. My friend and I were in this hotel Jan. 26th, 2008, a Saturday evening. We were placed in the Red Skelton room and found it delightful. (Art work in there is... more

We arrived very late and appeared to be about the only guest in the hotel. After changing hotel rooms 3 times (since the rooms did not work properly varying from heating, shower problems) we had to change another time in the middle of the night due to heating problems. There was nobody in the hotel to talk to and we... more

Ok, I read the negative reviews on this site and I must say that the people who wrote them just don't get it. Ok, the Armagosa Opera House and Hotel are not the Bellagio. You can drive an hour and stay at that strip hotel if you like, and pay $500 for that experience. I like 'em both. The opera... more

Our room (#20) had two beds, and seemed a little larger than the other rooms. Most of the rooms seemed slightly smaller than the average modern motel room. We were near rooms 22 & 24, which are reputed to be haunted. Room #22 was once Red Skelton's favorite room. The proprietor, Marta Becket, painted a mural of clowns in this... more

We welcomed our Marine home from Iraq and took him back to the desert! The drive was nice and we stopped in Tecopa Springs on the way. Spent one night at Amargosa Hotel - this is not the Ritz! However, we were impressed with the charm and creepiness of being out in the middle of nowhere. The room could have... more

Regardless of some of the not-so-complimentary reviews we read in the past, we decided to give the Amargosa Hotel a whirl! WE LOVED IT!!! Definately for the spirited, adventurous types and NOT the hoity-toity 5 start hotel lovers. The rooms were very clean/fresh smelling and the entire property was magnificent. We felt like we were on another planet, or better... more
