Let's get the not so positives out of the way first. No AC but there is a ceiling fan. The VOG from the volcano could be a problem for some with windows open. Even though the VOG was heavy during our stay, I experienced no problems, but a consideration for anyone with breathing problems. No elevator. Crashing waves. They could... more

We stayed for three days in Kona Tiki and I truly think that it was one of the best deals for a hotel I have ever stayed in... True getting a reservation is a little difficult...sending a check up front is a bother, however they are minor issues for what you get. A short drive away from the Kona downtown,... more

We had a really lovely 3 nights here back in June. After spending 5 nights in a fairly noisy hotel in the bustling Waikiki, it was a delight to be here. The room had character, plenty of space & a great view. There's no TV, but when you can virtually dry water snorkell by looking down into the sea from... more

They say that you can't get something for nothing, but Kona Tiki comes close. My wife and I stayed with extended Family living on Oahu, but when planning our trip we decided we should give our Family a break in the middle of our stay and travel for a few days to the Big Island. Kona Tiki has a policy... more

This is a great place to stay if you like low tech. Since there is no TV, air, etc., you make your own fun. You can really get to know the people staying there and the managers. The breakfast on the patio is great. The view is wonderful. Within walking distance to many things. Loved the sound of the ocean... more

We found this place in the Blue Book on Hawaii. We were very heppy with the location, on Kona Bay, and for the price, around $85 a night. You had the Kona bay right at your feet and Ali'i Dr. right there too. So it was easy to get around and go see all the great stuff on the island.... more

I can't review this hotel as we had to cancel our reservation due to ATA Airlines going bankrupt. I just wanted to say that we did receive our refund after one email and one phone call. I know a gentleman from Australia sent a review saying he was ripped off. I don't know what happened in his circumstance, but we... more

Just returned from a week's vacation in Hawaii where we stayed at the Kona Tiki. This is a great little place - we would be happy to stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it (with the 'noise caveat' below). It was pretty much exactly as described by other reviewers so I won't go into detail on what has... more

We first found out about the Kona Tiki Hotel via our Lonely Planet guide. It clearly states in the guide that they do not accept credit cards - we thought this was a bit weird for this day and age, but contacted them anyway. What attracted me to the hotel even more was their website - and every room having... more

There is so much to say about the Kona Tiki. It was definitely one of the more memorable places I have ever stayed and I would certainly return. What a bargain. Great location, walking distance to town and Lava Java, practically in the ocean. Yes, it's somewhat outdated, but it only gave it more character. We went to Hawaii with... more
