We stayed at this hotel because of the previous reviews at Tripadvisor. Previous reviewers mentioned about its affordable price, slightly dated decor, clean rooms and sensational made-to-order omelette breakfasts. All those comments turned out to be TRUE. We stayed there for 3 nights and we enjoyed our stay a lot. It is close to the Temple Square and the surrounding... more

A great central location. Hotel is only a few minutes from Temple Square and other central points. Rooms not great in size and a little outdated but very clean and comfortable. This is the best breakfast we have had in America, cooked to order, so it is fresh and tastey. Staff were all so friendly and very helpfull. The price... more

Wonderful base for using the LDS genealogy library three blocks away. Friendly, helpful staff, free pickup and return to airport, good reading lights in room (a small thing but neglected by so many hotels), and an overall genteel dowager feel to this 1920s family-owned property, showing some age but with dignity, including new paint and carpeting in the comfortable rooms.... more

This September I returned to the Carlton for my seventh week-long stay in as many years. My roomate and I come for a week of research at the Family History Library every Fall. We know the staff so well, they meet our particular needs without us even asking! We had an older suite this time, but as usual, it was... more

We stayed here 2 nights over Christmas holiday. This property is like the hotels of yesteryear. It is run well but needs a womans touch. They need to add some color, better artwork and some updated furnishing and this place could be a boutique business hotel. They have an area for a hot tub which is nice a feature. It is located a block from... more

If you prefer older hotels with character to the generic cookie-cutter newer budget hotels, this one is for you. The hotel was built in 1924 and has been remodeled at different times over the years. The rooms are very clean and functional. It reminds me of some of the older hotels in London--not fancy, but great if you plan to... more

Overview: I stayed here for five days last March (2006) on a ski trip with three of my friends and will be staying here again this March. Three reasons why you’d want to stay here: 1) Affordable: Includes parking (a tight fit if you have a larger vehicle) and a daily breakfast (though it is in the ‘basement’ – not... more

I stayed here again in December and again was very pleased. I'm now getting to know some of the staff and have not been disappointed in any of them. The front desk and housekeeping people are all friendly and helpful. It was cold and snowy, and since I like to walk to most of my downtown area destinations, the hotel... more

Excellent, friendly, terrific value. No, it isn't the Marriott or the Hilton but breakfast is as good as any, rooms clean, comfortable and neatly furnished (includes Frig and Microwave) with ensuite bathroom. Courtesy van to and from airport, to and from the Family History Library and even to local supermarket to buy some needed items. The van driver - "Doc"... more
