We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of July after a safari trip which was to celebrate our silver wedding. As an "older couple" We were not at all disappointed with the accommodation in our bungalow. Matemwe bungalows have a faded rustic charm which we loved. They are open to the elements, but with shutters closed we did... more

Matemwe Bungalows is a resort designed for honeymooners. Most of the people we met were there after safari.. This is the right way around, get the safari out of the way and relax for the second week of your honeymoon. The staff were excellent and the manager, Nigel, was first class. He was always on hand and would spend the... more

We booked our holiday with CC AFrica who are outstanding. We came to Matemwe after being in the Masai(Kichwe Tembo tented camp). Matemwe bugalows are very pleasant. They are very spacious and there is an upstairs with a double bed and desk as well as a double bed on the ground floor -so you could easily have parents and one child...snag... more

We stayed at the new Villa Retreats at Matemwe Bungalows (the new villas have only been open for 3 months). It was really out of this world The view was abslutely awesome, the privacy unparalleled and the food just unbelievably good. We had a service problem on the one day but it was dealt with effectively and to our satisfaction.... more

Had a fantastic stay here. After the heat and dust of a camping safari this was just what the Dr ordered... Took my shoes off on arrival and didn't put them on again until we left. Not the height of luxuary but had everyting we needed. Rooms were large, comfortable and clean with good bathroom and hot water! Beach was... more

Though we had a wonderful 6 night stay at Matemwe Bungalows, we came away from it feeling 'ripped off'. We found it as great as all the other reviews - food fantastic, very relaxed and friendly, rooms lovely, pools clean, view of sea great. However, it comes down to whether you think it is worth the $450 per night we... more

I am currently at the Bungalows. I was hesitant to go here, because of the reviews. However, I spoke with someone who went to many locations himself and he told me this is one of the more authentic and nicer places on Zanzibar. If you want "Western comfort" (airco, entertainment team, etc...), don't go here! I had to look for... more

We stayed at Matemwe Bungalows for a week, over New Year. This is a lovely rustic-style hotel - with the emphasis on rustic! Don't go if the first thing you look for is a mini bar, Air con and a TV. The rooms are large, palm thatched villas with a fan. A big comfortable bed is set up on a... more

All bungalows are situated in a gorgeous and very wel maintained garden with a lounge... more
