We spent 2 weeks travelling around Costa Rica and this was one of the better hotels we stayed at. We didn't book in advance as it was the low season. The room was $115 and very clean and comfortable. The hotel is set in a beautiful surroundings with a fantastic panaramic view of the ocean. Yes the hotel is perched... more

We had an bad experience here. The view from this hotel is amazing. You do need a car to get to the top of the hill that it is perched upon. There is a pool and a restaurant/bar area that is nice. The problems were, however: 1. They tried to overcharge us upon arrival 2. They tried to make us... more

The photos on the Whales and Dolphins website paired with the $185/night pricetag led my boyfriend and I to believe that this would be a gorgeous, beachside resort. It is neither of these things. It is nowhere near the beach it would probably take about 30 or 45 minutes to hike down the mountain and walk all the way there),... more

We stayed at Whales and Dolphins in february for three nights. We were agreably surprised by the hotel! The views from the pool and bar are really spectacular! Pool is great, the rooms look brand new, beds are confortable, there is a mini bar, sat tv, efficient AC and a balcony with excellent views where you can watch the sunset.... more

This place is nice and is only going to get better. The view of Playa Ballena is absolutely amazing and the rooms are nice. The restaurant is very good and after speaking with the manager there are plans to build a new pool with a new tile deck, too. The best part was the wildlife. Frogs and birds serenaded us... more

When we arrived in April 2005, there was one other couple in the entire hotel. They left the next night, and we had the whole place to ourselves. From our balcony, we could watch wild Toucans and Wild Parrots flying about. We could also see the ocean, and the sandbar/rocks which look like a whale's tail. The room and furniture... more

My wife and I just returned from the Dominical area where we stayed a night at Whales and Dolphins. We had a great experience there and enjoyed our stay. I visit the Dominical area often but this was our first time staying at the hotel. We have visited before for lunch and the view. From the pool, restaurant and bar... more

If it wasn't for the view, I would have left too. The rooms were clean but the pool is need of some upkeep. They advertise free local calls but there is only one phone and that is in the reception area. I recommend going up for lunch just for the view and order the red snapper but don't expect great... more

A most unpleasant hotel. Unfriendly management, dirty room, very marred and dusty furniture. Advertised as rooms having mini bar, hair-dryer, telephone - none of these were in the room. I would have left on the first night if the hotel had not demanded full payment a month prior to the stay - with no refund. Compared with other 4 star... more
