Hi there,

We will be holidaying at the Almond Casuarina in August and wondered what the restaurant and the evening dress codes for ladies, gentlemen and children is.

Having just lost a several stone in weight and with a few stone still to go I really do not want to have to spend a small fortune on buying two weeks worth of 'posh' clothes that I won't get the wear out of.

Would I get away with capped sleeved t-shirts & trousers/cropped trousers/skirts and open toe mules?

Would our 7 & 12 year old daughters be ok with strappy dresses or strappy tops with skirts/trousers/cropped trousers and strappy sandals?

Am I correct in thinking that my husband will have to wear full length trousers, enclosed shoes and a collared shirt with short sleeves?

Please excuse my ignorance. We have never holidayed abroad before and don't want to get it wrong!

Any help and advice would be really appreciated.

Many thanks,

Susan & family

This is the official advice from Almond:

The tropical climate and relaxed atmosphere of Barbados lend themselves nicely to casual attire. Shoes must be worn, bathing suits must be covered and men are required to wear shirts with sleeves in all restaurants. After 6 pm, nice casual attire is suggested (no shorts or shorts ensembles).

.........so everything you have mentioned will be fine. Have a great time!

We stayed their from 18th June to 1st July and basically in the Evening:

Men have to wear trousers with a COLLAR top (ie; shirt, polo top, etc). Women can wear literally anything in the Evening (obviously no beech wear. short shorts). Kids, I tend to dress my 2 boys (10 & 5yrs) smart but comfortable, ie; shirt, t-shirt, 3/4 lenghts)

Hope this helps

hello there

We have just returned and felt the dress code to be very relaxed, in fact too relaxed for our taste...but our children only used half of their outfits and those comfy casuals will get worn again in preference to the really posh affairs..

Seriously..Have a really hot bath..leave the windows and doors closed and try your outfits on in there...If they are comfy pack them...If not leave them at home.

The wardrobes are small for a family too.

Hi,

Thank you so much everyone for all of your advice. It really is appreciated, especially the tip about taking a hot bath etc before trying holiday clothes on. What a great idea.

I'm so glad that we are on the right track.

Kindest regards to you all.

The Almond Casuarina is a fantastic hotel complete with excellent food/drink and the bar staff are all very friendly.

There are three restaurants to eat in and in all three men do have to wear long pants/jeans etc. with a shirt or polo top. Even at breakfast and lunch men must wear polo tops but they can wear shorts.

The dress code for women/female children is not as strict and can wear pretty much what they want.

I would say to Susan and family that u don't really need posh dresses etc. but each to there own. I wore jeans and a polo top most nights or pants with a shirt and that was fine.

Hope this has been helpfull

Doreen - do you mean your wore jeans and polo shirt into the restaurant in the evening?

I did not think this was allowed and were you not too hot?

Yes i wore jeans and a polo top most evenings for dinner and that was fine.

It was hot and sticky most nights to be fair but after dinner i used to nip back to the room and put some nice shorts on.

Quite alot of people wore linnen type pants to keep cool in the evenings and that was also fine.

Hope this info is helpful and you and your family have a lovely stay.

Well if that is how standards have fallen in Barbados that makes me sad -would you actually dream of going out to dinner in jeans! I really cant believe that this is allowed
