I am going to visit my father in Jamaica (Dalvey, St. Thomas) in a few months. I am deciding whether to stay in Morant Bay or Port Antonio.

I am a party animal, and I would be bored if there was nothing for me to do at night. So, I am thinking about going to Port Antnion, atleast they have the "Roof Club" there.

1. Can anyone tell me what to expect at "Roof Club"?

2. Are there any real clubs in Morant Bay?

3. How far is Port Antonio from Dalvey?

4. How long is the drive?

5. Are there any good hotels near "Roof Club"?

If you want nightlife, head into Kingston... the drive from where you need to be in St Thomas is just about as long from Kingston as it is from Port Antonio (distance is closer, but roads are bad out in Portland, so you'd be better off heading to Kingston) and no where on the island do they party like Kingston...

Portland is beautiful, St Thomas is lovely, but neither would be a desintaion i would associate with any sort of party scene (St Thomas has Oval, but that's a once a year thing, Portland has some nice little round robbins, but not a wild scene at all)...

To get from Kingston to where you will be staying in St Thomas shouldn't take much more than an hour to an hour and a half.... Port Antonio would likely take the same time (maybe a little less)..

you could have real nightlife for what i'd say is likely no more than a 15 minute more drive...

roof top i believe is what its called and apparently one of the greatest club, although when we went it wasn't the night it was open, wish i could have seen it as i heard of it so many times.... its either wednesday or tuesdays, now locals would be able to tell you. one thing i noticed, women admission was free.

also, for morant bay, i often hear mokko saying he's been to parties there when i phone him, might want to check with him on the specifics of anything going on there... not sure about 'real' clubs though.

kingston is great, esp if you can find someone to show you around, always great to go with some locals :)

I have been to some neat street parties and some neat, smaller bars in Morant Bay and the surrounding area (particularly Lyssons), but no real clubs.

We did have a good time at a decent club in Yallahs one night, which is a reasonable drive from Morant Bay.

I do highly recommend the Golden Shore Beach Hotel in Lyssons as well.

yes of course, bighouse is right, Kingston (espeically the nightlife) is not somewhere I'd recommend going on your own...

hopefully you have family in those parts that can show you around and take you out to whatever sort of place your heart may desire, new kingston has some nice more upscale clubs (you'll likely feel like you are back home), there's usually an uptown party happening every weekend either in New Kingston or out by mona or the like that will draw a great crowd and there are staple street parties like passa passa (wednesdays), bembe (Thursday), dutty fridayz (Friday obviously), uptown mondays ect... these bring out a pretty wild and a bit rougher crowd, def would want someone familiar with that scene to carry you to one of these if that's your thing... .

anyway you slice it... if it's real parties you want, I think you should at least check out Kingston for one night if possible...

I went to the Roof Club a couple of years back and it was a lot of fun.....local scene good selector that night....it was ladies's night so nice crowd but other than that we didn't do any other clubbing as stated Port Antonio is not a place that comes to mind when I think of partying. Roof Club is in the town center so hotels in the actual town would be close to the club Ivanhoe is one that comes to mind.

I was in the Peace Corps and served in Port Antonio. The Roof Club is great and can have a range of Colorfull folks. You will find that more european's then americans in this part of the Island. If your in Morant Bay for a while you should find some of the Peace Corps folks and they will steer you to a great time.

Kingston (ie TOWN) is not a place I would go unless you had others to get down with. It can be a very rough town.

There are lots of places to stay in PA just go the the Chamber of Commerce site and it will steer you in the right direction.

While you are there if anyone (and they will) begs you for money just say 'Me Salt' and they will leave you be. It means that while you have money you just do not have any to spare.
