Destination wedding in Vieques |
|
Hi. I'm planning a destination wedding and I'm looking for some help. Originally we were looking at Mexico but my fiance is Puerto Rican and has some family in Puerto Rico that we would like to have at our wedding. We decided it would be easier for us if we just wmoved the wedding to them. We plan to have about 10-20 guests at this point. We are looking for a place that we can have our ceremony in a gazebo or on a terrace overlooking the beach and have a small private reception afterwards, preferably outdoors in a garden, terrace or patio. We are also on a tight budget and so are our guests. Can anyone suggest a nice place in Vieques or even the San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde area?? Thank you! |

When is your wedding date? Summer and fall lodging dates in Vieques are much less expensive starting generally in May running until October and November. Would all guests need to stay at the same house? If not, putting all the guests in one town would save many headaches on logistics. In my opinion, Esperanza would be easiest as it has small markets, ocean front restaurants/bars, a playground and a couple beach areas all within walking distance. There are also plenty of lodging choices. Having a wife who has planned and helped plan weddings, the closer you can get people staying in the same relative location, will save you plenty of headaches. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice! I want to find a small hotel or Inn that would be able to accomadate all of our guests. We need about 8-10 rooms. I think it's best if everyone is in one central location. I haven't had any luck yet finding a nice place in PR that within our budget :0( We may have to go back to planning a wedding in Mexico. I just thought it would be better because it's easier to get married because it's still a US territory and no one will need passports. Also my fiance's grandma, grandfather and wheel chair bound aunt live in PR and this would be the only way for them to attend our wedding.

have you looked at the villas? There are some nice places that are for rent. www.enchanted-isle.com It might be a bit small for you for the La Riposa have a beautiful gazebo structure. It's in Bravos de Boston... so there would be other places near by for the guests. I found some great places on that website.

I believe you can have weddings at the lighthouse in Isabelle II. They have a gazebo and a nice view. Not sure about cost but I know I have seen pics of weddings taken here. There is another site with a forum devoted to Vieques. Look for a map with links to photos. The only issue I would forsee for you is that most of the places to stay are small, so guests would be spread out over the island, and it is very difficult to get around the island w/o renting vehicles.

You might consider renting two or three villas right next to each other, for instance enchanted-isle.com/byowner/lasterrazas.htm and vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/… which together would hold at least fourteen guests. There was a Christmas/New Year's party of about fourteen at these houses this year and I heard it worked out great.

Surfguy is right about getting a couple of villas, as that might be your best choice. Also consider getting to Vieques 2 days early if you're getting married on the island. You'll need this time for the blood tests and results. If you get to the hospital early Thursday morning, get the tests, and you'll likely have to come back the next day for the results. Get your stamps on Thursday, and come back on Friday for the rest. If you already know the drill for what you need then you're all set, if not, let me know, and I'll do what I can to help you through it all. Like I said, 2 days before the ceremony is a minimum mandate because of the time it takes to get results. Get in contact with Denise from Inn on the Blue Horizon. She rented my wife and I L'Miridor for our private ceremony (included bubbly and all). We had someone local on the island do our cake, and it was equally affordable. http://picasaweb.google.com/colon.martin and you'll see the cake and what it looked like atop of the Inn. It's awesome! Basically, we planned our entire elopement, so if you need any feedback, we still have it pretty fresh on our minds since it's only been a month. Martin

Looks like this might be a little late for this bride to be, but I highly recommend Evamer, it would be a wonderful place for a wedding on Vieques. And the manager, Marc, is fantastic and super helpful. Good luck whevever you end up!

Evamer was perfect for my wedding. If there are only 20 people it would be a great location. We had 40 people. You can have 5 couples stay at the Evamer and there is a few more cheap hotels right around the corner. If you need advice let me know. I just posted a review with some pictures of the set up if you want to check it out.

I attended a wedding in Vieques in May that was orchestrated by a planner. The reception was held at a lovely Villa but I really feel the event was marred by the presence and histrionic behavior of the larger than life planner. She made an entrance wearing what appeared to be a bridesmaid's gown in a color that clashed with the bridal party, sat down at a table with a drink in one hand, a cigarette in the other and commenced to screaming at the waitresses. Non Stop, she never shut up and we were treated to hours of vulgar monologue. She even announced that it was her birthday over a loudspeaker! It seems that the island's only florist will not work with her so she put live fish in bowls on all of the tables in lieu of flowers (in the hot sun). The poor fish were being boiled alive and much of the planner's screaming and cursing was in response to the waitresses attempts to shade the fish.
