When on Monserrat, I too found the accent to be very similar to a Jamaican accent. The Monserratians are super friendly and I would love to know more about their history. I expected to hear more of a British accent, as the island is part of the Bristish commonwealth, or an Irish accent, due to its Irish history, but found neither...only some expatriates from Canada, American, and England who spoke a bit with these accents, but none of the Montserratians. Not strange, though, as they were on Monserrat way before the Brits I believe! For anyone living in Monsterrat, would you say you have your own unique Monserratian accent, or a blend of accents? Now I'm curious!
