Hi,

My fiance and I are trying to plan our honeymoon for December and I am seriously considering staying at the Marriott on St. Kitts for a week. I did look at the reviews and they made me a bit nervous. Has anyone stayed their recently? I would love to hear some opinions.

Also- would you reccomend going to Nevis for a few days or just a day trip? If a few days what are the good places to stay that are romantic but not over the top expensive.

Thank you so much!!

allysonwish:

You made a great choice by deciding on the islands of St Kitts and Nevis (by far my favorites in the Caribbean). Hidden treasures.

I have stayed at the marriott and thought it was extremely nice. I am sure you know this but it is a huge resort (over 600 rooms) but there was very little I could complain about. I found the employees to be very nice and helpful, loved the suite we got (we got on ein the garden houses and not the main building which we liked), and thought the food was very good. Especially Blu Seafood and the Royal Steakhouse. I can provide as many details as you need so feel free to message me with specific questions.

With regards to Nevis, I would highly recommend going there for at least a few days. It is my favorite of the 2 islands. Lodging is more limited in Nevis but overall I find it to be better. Of course there is the Four Seasons which I have stayed at and I absolutely love but as you can guess it is very expensive. The other place I have stayed is Montpelier Plantation Inn. This is not cheap either but it is an amazing place. Very different from the 4 seasons and Marriott in that it only has 16 or 17 rooms so it has some charm to it. The employees were the friendliest we have found anywhere. This is up in the mountains and is not on the beach however they have a private beach where they can shuttle you to each day. My wife and my last trip to Nevis we actually did 3 days at the Four Seasons and 4 at Montpelier which was a perfect combination.

If you go to Montpelier you will truly have the best food you will ever eat. Breakfasts are incredible (tons of fresh fruit and breads) plus you get to order one of their entrees (omelettes, etc). Dinner is the best. Great views of neighboring St Kitts and it is extremely romantic. They have a mill there and for a honeymoon I would highly recommend having dinner in there one night. My wife and I still regret not doing that. Montpelier has a bunch of very nice packages. We got one which included all breakfasts, dinner for 3 out of the 4 nights, a 4 hour tour of the island, 1 champagne lunch on the beach, etc. We cannot wait to go back. If we just had three days we would go to Montpelier over the 4 seasons.

Other places to stay are the Hermitage (very nice but not as nice as Montpelier) and Nisbet Plantation which is the only plantation inn right on the beach.

Let me know if you want more information. Here are some websites.

The Marriott would be a lovely spot for a honeymoon. It is a very large resort, but they have a lot of amenities that the smaller hotels do not have. Just make sure you leave the property and see the island. It is beautiful with its' rain forests, sugar cane fields, beaches, villages, etc.

If you decide to spend a night or two on Nevis, you will find most of the resorts fairly expensive. Two Nevis websites you might want to visit are www.nevis1.com and www.nevisforum.com There is a lot of information about hotels, etc on those sites.

http://myisland.myeyes.net/forum is another good site with lots of information and reviews of hotels and restaurants for both St. Kitts and Nevis.

When and where is the wedding?

Hi-

Thanks so much for all of the info!! My wedding is in early December in Cleveland. We are planning our honeymoon for mid-December. We are still deciding on an exact location in the Caribbean. We were also looking into Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Curacao and Barbados.

Again thanks for all the information on St. Kitts. It is much appreciated.

Hi Allyson,

My fiance and I are getting married here in Detroit in November. We have planned to stay at Nisbet Plantation using their honeymoon pkg for the first 6 nights. We have heard great things about it and it sounds like the pampering we will need right after the wedding. The last 3 nights, we are pretty sure will be at the Marriott, St Kitts. We want to go out and explore the islands and it sounds like a good place to stay. I have heard about Ottleys on St Kitts also and it sounds wonderful and very beautiful but a totally different experience from the Marriott. Depending on what you are looking for that could be a nice place for part of your stay as well. I think that may be more romantic and quiet if you like that, but also more expensive. Since we want to go out and explore, we didn't want to spend the money for Ottleys as we will have a similar experience at Nisbet on Nevis. Happy planning!!!

First, it doesn't matter where you will spend you honeymoon, you will enjoy St. Kitts. What you need to look at is what kind of amenities you need & want during your stay. The Marriott is definitely the place with the most and most up-to-date amenities. The smaller hotels and guest houses will not have everything you might want. Also remember that the guest houses can be in the country side so you will either need to rent a car or take taxis to go to places. There isn't much around.

But again, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the places recommended. Rawlins Plantation, Ottley's Plantation or the Marriott.

Have a great time!!!

My Fiance and I are going to the Marriott in St. Kitts for our honeymoon in the begining of August, we are staying for 10 days and chose to do the all inclusive option. We are younger - 24 and 25 so we plan on doing a lot of eating, drinking and relaxing on the beach. We plan on doing a snorkeling trip and maybe and day trip or 2 - but for the most part will will just be staying at the resort getting some relaxation time! I will post a report when we get back.

Riz425...

Be sure to check out the many fun beach bars on The Strip, which is about at 15-20 minute walk from the Marriott.

Thursday nights are popular at The Shiggidy Shack with the fire eater and Saturday night for karaoke.

Ziggy's is a popular spot on Friday and Saturday nights as well.

Nevis is a 20 minute boat ride from St Kitts-I would spend at least a few days there. Restaurants there are excellent. We stayed at four Seasons which is beautiful.

Just a quick note to say that we enjoyed the Marriott so much we bought a time share there. Been back twice so far and look forward to our next visit.

The Marriott not only has all the amenities, they are also set up so you can avoid most of the activity and have a private vacation if you wish.

Walk to the strip, enjoy loads of fun bars, grills and great people. Check out Shiggity Shack.

Drive (or taxi) to Reggae Beach for lunch and beach facing Nevis, and to Shipwreck Bar for the uncrowded, almost deserted beach - but with food and cold drinks available uder the thatched roof.

Best to you both!
