Where do the locals eat? |
|
Looking to hang out and eat with the locals.... My treat? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
|
Your treat? When do you arrive!? Tnere are two different things going on this Forum. 1. Tourists (the majority of people on this Forum) tend to eat at places that are walking distance from the center of San Lucas. They have their favorites - Golandrinas, Ediths, Crazy Lobster, Gordo Ley, Riks, etc. etc. I am happy for them, but the food is overpriced and mediocre at best. Locals (the people who live here, both mexican and gavacho) for the most part, don't eat there. 2. The locals, those of us who live here, eat at the following popular places: La Fonda (world's best mexican food) Guacamayas (their tee shirts are collector items - wear one of those on the streets of Minneapolis and see if that doesn't start a conversation!) Los Michoacanos (the pig palace) El Dorado Sol (the owner is a mexican born again Christian) Latitude 22 Roadhouse (!ay carumba!) Cabo del Sol Golf Clubhouse Sunday brunch (pure class) There is something for everyone, and that is just scratching the surface. And we don't pay $10 to $12 for our mixed drinks or $4 for our beer or $50 for a bottle of California wine. We serve and share them at our casas overlooking the beautiful Sea of Cortez, enjoying the comraderie, and chilling out at a fraction of the cost. When one of the neighbors catches a nice fish (whether mexican or american), everyone is invited over for a barbecue. Better than any restaurant! Life is continually good down here, when you live here full time.

By the way, anyone who wants to buy a meal for the two us, we will pick you up in our car (Dodge Caravan) and take you to where the locals hang out, at whatever price point you want to spend. How is that for shameless promotion? !Buen provecho!

Many of the locals also hang out at: Solomons, on the marina. The Baja Cantina, also on the marina. Casanova's, which is on the same street os Edith's but closer to the entrance to the Melia (very good Italian/Venitian food). My neighbor's house. And I just had dinner at Lorenzillo's, but that place is not in everyone's budget. Best service on the marina IMO but pricey (lobster place with outstanding filet mignon).

Where is Guacamayas and what type of food do they serve?
|
>Where is Guacamayas and what type of food do they >serve? Guacamayas (Parrots) is a taco joint. Not fancy at all. It has the world's best tacos and it is where the locals eat their tacos. It is open air with plastic tables and chairs. They open at 6pm. They have three places, 2 in San Jose and one in San Lucas. The San Lucas place is about 10 blocks from the marina up in the center of town. It is across the street from Kaki Bassi's picture framing shop. Figure about $5 per person including a soft drink.

These are my favorites, and only one is a tourist place. Pretty much all of the locals (not counting the gringos)go out for lunch, not dinner and that almosta always means "mariscos" or seafood. - THE OFFICE: I know, way too expensive but there is simply no comparison in terms of quality with anyplace else on the beach. The owner, Edith is a classy lady. - EL TORITO: The classic, big place for mariscos. All types of fresh clams, oysters, shrimp, scallops in cocktails or main dishes. Try the shrimp meatball soup and their Mazatlan style carne asada. Cheap. - EL TORO GUERO: A smaller place started by former El Torito staff. - TACOS EL GUERO GERMAN: With apologies to Gordo Lele and everyone else, these are the absolute best tacos, anywhere period. Open until 4-5 am. Very hard to find, back near the City Delegation and City Market. - LA GUADALUPANA: For Mexican food as it should be. A replica of a Mexico City cantina from the 30's with delicious home cooking. Right on the main drag a few doors up from the Chevy dealership.

We were at La Casa del Dorado for breakfast yesterday morning. It was full, and we were the only gringos. Even the wait staff on that shift spoke almost no English. It was great food, as usual.

Great question, FenwayFaithful24, and I loved these answers. I know where a lot of those places are but haven't been to all of them yet. There are so many great places to eat in Cabo and I want to try them all. I might take you up on that, matapule. We'll be there in October. :-)
|
I agree with AstosLover, we ate at La Casa del Dorado in mid-afternoon, we were the only gringos there, it was very crowded. The food was excellent!
|
Where is El Torito and Toro Guero? I am unfamilar with them. But I am always willing to try a new place, there are so many, it is hard to keep track of all of them.
