I was reading a bunch of articles on the new trend for travel agencies to start charging you addt'l surcharges, even on your pre-paid vacations, and then it led to more articles re: airline "surcharges", etc. This article was particularly interesting and so thought I might share it with you all:

I'm definitely going to be double & triple-checking all of the current airline restrictions before I leave on a trip just to make sure that I don't get caught off-guard and hit with some new "surcharge".

Too bad we have to work so darned hard on our vacations! We'll need a vacation to recover from our vacation, LOL.

Good info Donna! I double checked my reservations and so far I'm good to go. I checked to see how much my flight went up from when I booked it and what it is now. It went up as high as $150. Glad I booked when I did!

It may help someone to know what I paid to make changes to my flight reservations.

When I first made reservations for the October Tourney, the wife said no way could she get off and grandson wanted to stay the minimum possible days which was arrive Sun and leave Thur. So, in December, made all the arrangements. As time went on, the wife softened and hinted she wanted to go. I wanted her to go also, because this was the first year since we started in 2005 that we had not been to Cabo at least twice. I knew October was all there was going to be this year so I "bit the bullet" and made the changes. The flight tickets were up $200 apiece and since I wanted it now to be 7 nights they charged $100 each to change flights for grandson and me. The total cost of flying by adding my dear one and extending the stay was over $1300.

It hurt, but I am soooo glad I did. There are now 3 estactically anticipating this October. It is just under 138 days BTW.

The term "travel agencies" can be such a misleading term. In the old days it was just the local "mom & pop" places that were called travel agencies, but that is no longer the case. So, to clarify, tour operators are oft times called travel agencies, and when they are hit with additional fees by their suppliers, they usually have to pass them on to the clients, in order to stay in business.........just so you all know, a lot of little agencies, like the one I work for still have about a $15/ticket fee when it's a ticket only........and we are still paid by the cruise lines and tour operators, so we do not charge a fee.

Sadly, there are some carriers that will charge for changes unless the pax. booked directly....that means that I have to risk fees if I book in my system, even for myself, and need to change, or the fare drops! I truly hate the way so many are out to truly suck that last dime out of our pockets.
