Riu Jalisco for Older Couple |
|
I don't feel "older" but my birth certificate tells me differently so I am wondering if this resort would be okay for me and my husband in mid-September. We aren't by any stretch of the imagination "old fossiles" but gave up the swinging scene years ago. We love a good beach with shade for me (husband is a pachyderm with tough skin; me, I wilt easily). I tend to like quiet areas also. Don't demand much in the way of service, just cleanliness and cordiality. I have read a number of markedly different reviews, both good and bad that I am questioning my decision to go to the Riu Jalisco. Does the place appeal to older folks? Any/all opinions would be very much appreciated. |

i was at the Riu Jalisco last June/July. The guests were in all age ranges, so you certainly won't feel out of place. The only thing I didn't notice was a lot of singles - there were some but they certainly didn't comprise the majority of guests. The beach is lovely and there is palm-tree shade - so that should suit both you and your husband. The only thing that you might wish to be aware of is the fact that there are only three elevators serving the entire hotel (when we were there, only two were in service at any given time). Moreover, the hotel is quite large and so some rooms are quite a distance from the elevators. If stairs or mobility is any kind of issue for you or your husband, you may want to request a ground-floor room or something close to the elevators.

We (in our thirties) went last fall and found that it is definitely a family resort. I would say it is also quite noisy. And noisy throughout the hallways. There is a separate kids pools but by no means is there a quiet pool or anything like that. I would maybe check out the Vallarta. At the time there was little shade by the pool but lots on the beach and overall we found it to be cleaner (definitely a cleaner pool unless they blew the Jalisco pool up and retiled it) and more adult orientated. Beaches were very nice.

Oh, my, two definitely conflicting opinions which give much thought to my decision. But both are appreciated. Another thought just entered my mind. Does Riu Jalisco have resort privileges at Vallarta? Unbeknownst to me, my "dear" husband reserved us at the Jalisco. That doesn't preclude me cancelling but I wouldn't want to "deflate" his decision UNLESS I was absolutely sure I, whoops, I mean WE, wouldn't enjoy the Jalisco.

Jalisco is beautiful. We went there on our honeymoon... back in 2002. It is older than Vallarta, but it has more of a Spanish flair. And the courtyard is great with the gazebo. Only when you stay at the Vallarta....do you get to use Jalisco...not vice versa. That and the fact it's newer makes it a little more expcensive. We're actually trying the Vallarta in June and taking both sets of parents. You'll see a variety of ages. So don't worry about that. Your vacation is what you make of it. Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy!!!!!!
