Will be in the LL/Banff/Jasper area first week of June. Can anyone tell me if the lakes will be thawing out by then?

Thank you.

If the high elevation glacial lakes are not already thawed by then, they will be very close! It may be that the main part of the lake is open water, and there may only be remnants of the winter ice along shady parts of the shore. Lakes at lower elevations will be completely thawed.

Yes, the lakes will be (mostly) thawed, but the glacial lakes don't tend to have their best green-blue colour until later in the summer.

Gee - the first week in June ... I wouldn't bet on Lake Louise, Moraine Lake or Bow Lake being thawed. The lower altitude lakes should be fine.

LAKES AROUND THE BANFF LAKELOUISE AREA...

-Lake Minnewanka, Two Jack Lake, Johnston's Lake (Lake minnewanka boat tours taking you to end of

-Vermillion Lakes (are shallow so they will be thawed.. they have a beautiful reflection of Sulphur Mountain)

-Johnston's Canyon (the river and waterfalls will be thawed and gushing)

-Lake Louise(might be ice around edges, larger and deeper lake therefore takes longer to thaw completley)

-Morraine Lake (ice is a possibility but might be 1/2 thawed, still beautiful)

-Bow Lake( might be 1/2 thawed)

WHAT IT COMES DOWN TO IS THAT IF THE WEATHER IS HOT FROM NOW (MAY 18 to the first week of June), THE FURTHER THAWED THE LAKES WILL BE.
