Transportation from Calgary --> Kalispell |
|
I'm looking to get any information regarding any companies that anyone might have used to get from Calgary to Glacier National Park? It seems like renting a car is cost prohibitive from canada-us (vice versa). Any advice would be great! |

Greyhound Buses will take you from Calgary to Revelstoke, the major town in Glacier National Park. Consider taking the bus from Calgary to Banff, stopping for 1 or 2 nights. There is a lot to do and see (gondola rides, boat tours of Lake Minnewanka, The hot springs, beautiful lakes, scenic drives and walks and more!) The Banff Information Centre(located along Banff Avenue) is your best source of information! The Grehyound bus will take you from Banff onward to Revelstoke. I'm guessing from the subject line that Olivianyc wants to go across the border to the US Glacier NP, not the Glacier NP in Canada. Unfortunately, there is a real dearth of transport options from Alberta to Montana. If I recall correctly, your only options are to rent a car (and make sure to get written permission to take it into the US from the car rental company) or to fly across the border and then rent a car.

I tried this route through the Greyhound site, and it looks like their suggestion is Calgary to Vancouver to Seattle to Kalispell -- really not a doable option. I wondeer if there is a tour company that does anything like this - eg take a tour bus from Calgary to Waterton Glacier, then connect with the US bus system somehow out of Glacier?

The most obvious option is to fly. There are no direct flights from YYC to Kalispell, you would have to fly to Spokane, then Kalispell. The cost would be around $600 USD. A rental car is VERY costly and you will have a very tough time finding a company that will do a one-way rental from Canada to the US. (Avis comes to mind, don't know of any others.) You can take a Greyhound bus from Calgary airport to Pincher Creek, and then take a cab from Pincher Creek to Waterton. There is a shuttle that will take you from Waterton to the US border, where you can walk through customs and connect with another shuttle that will take you to GNP. I think this is the cheapest option. You can also hire a charter to take you from YYC all the way to Waterton or GNP. I believe the shuttle to Waterton is in the neighbourhood of $350 to $400 CAD but it is door to door service and is a reasonable option if you are travelling with a few people and can split the cost. Here is a link to a website with info on this: www.airportshuttleexpress.com/waterton.htm I hope that helps!

Oh good show, Jim! I just realized that we posted the same link! Sorry about that!

Dcunited074, Is there a problem with the Airporter Shuttle Express that was linked to earlier on this thread? If there is, I'd be interested to know the details.
|
there is no problem with the link, the problem is price! I emailed and it is $725 from Calgary to Glacier. that is more than a flight.
|
Wow, that is a problem! Thanks for passing that info on, it's kind of annoying that they don't give it on their website directly. How about their suggestion to take a cab from the airport to Greyhound, Greyhound to Pincher Creek, then a cab from Pincher Creek to Waterton-Glacier? It looks like that costs about $170.
