Driving the Canadian Rockies. |
|
We are driving the Rockies in a motorhome in a few weeks and beginning to get the jitters as have no real plans. We're driving from Edmonton, exploring & returning back to Edmonton over 7 days. We hope to visit Jasper, the icefields, Lake Louise etc etc. Any tips about camp sites, must sees, things to avoid, dos & don'ts would be really useful! I thought we'd just take it as it comes but have been told it's best to have some sort of plan especially when planning where to stay overnight. thanks in advance Ps Anyone know anything about Canadian supermarkets in Nova Scotia & the Rockies? |

Hi; All of the cities that you have listed are not located in the Province of British Columbia. They are located in the Province of Alberta. You would be better to post your questions in the Canadian Rockies and / or the Province of Alberta forums. Cdn. Rockies forum; tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g659487-i11598-Can… Province of Alberta forum; tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g154909-i219-Alber… I suggest that you read the following traveler articles; Driving the Icefields Parkway tripadvisor.com/Travel-g659487-c74055/Canadi… Driving in the Mountains tripadvisor.com/Travel-g659487-c72290/Canadi… What is it that you want to know about supermarkets? FYI…Nova Scotia is approx. 3000 miles / 4800 km east of the Canadian Rockies. Best Regards

Regarding grocery stores... stock up in Edmonton before you head to the mountains. Jasper normally has two grocery stores, but one is closed for renovations at the moment - word is they'll be re-opening in June. So currently, there is only one open. Heading south on the Icefields Parkway (hwy 93), the next full-fledged grocery store is in Banff, 300 km south of Jasper. Regarding your itinerary - I would suggest Edmonton to Jasper, Jasper to Banff, and reverse. The drive up/down the Icefields Parkway is stunning and worth doing more than once; the views are different when going the other direction. There are not a lot of campsites in the national parks with full hook-ups - only near Jasper and Banff townsites. Check out Parks Canada's website for more info: www.pc.gc.ca (choose the park you want info for, then go to the "where to stay", then "camping" page.

Thanks for all your comments! They were very useful. I know NS & the Rockies are a little far apart, however I didn't want to open a new thread to ask about Canadian supermarkets... Have opned an NS one & someone has fedback about Rockies shopping too.
