Should we Aussie's stay in a Holiday Inn for New Years 08 |
|
Broadway location isn't all that convenient as its close to downtown but everything you will want to do will require a bus ride into downtown. The other location if it near Howe street is way more convenient. There are lots of reviews on here of that hotel. I stayed there and found it to be fine. Its in the 'entertainment' distrcit so it can get noisier but its close to Yaletown and other places where younger people may want to explore. I'll let others comment, but it would be nicer if you could visit when the weather may be nicer than in December.

The Holiday Inn Downtown is where you'd want to be, but it's (in my opinion) nothing special. If you're coming here for a special occasion (birthday & NYE), I'd probably choose a hotel that's a little more stylish or fun. Unless, of course, all you want is somewhere to sleep at night... but if you're here for one week, I'd probably go with somewhere that has a little more character. What's your budget? I should also mention that you Aussies are spoiled with your New Years parties. :) All your NYE festivities are outdoors. NYE in Vancouver is a non-event. Okay, that's not entirely true, but there are no outdoor public gatherings of any sort here. Since every club in the city charges a cover on NYE, it prevents anybody from club hopping back and forth, so once you're in a venue, you tend to stick to it. All NYE events happen indoors in nightclubs in Vancouver... and the entrance fee is often overinflated. Just be wary of this because you may be anticipating an Aussie style NYE in Vancouver, and I don't want you to be disappointed.

I agree with Robyn as Vancouver still has a lot to learn about making NYE a celebration. Suggest Whistler for NYE and spend your other time in Vancouver.

seattle does do a large outdoor fireworks show at the Space Needle you may have seen on tv if you can work a side trip down to Seattle. By train its a nice trip for a day or two.

Agree with all of above about Vancouver being a nonevent New Years... having said that if you are coming suggest you look at Blue Horizon Hotel.. better price, excellent location. Daughter and BF did new Years package at Hyatt in 2006 got room and there was a dinner dance that was targeted at your age group, young professionals..they don't live here but found it fun and were at a table of 8 so met other people..just a thought but as mentioned Whistler probably a better option.
