Spokane eh.

Just had a friend visit from Seattle ,actually Mill Creek. The best time to visit Cape Breton is anytime,(well maybe not Jan to May ) and depends on what you want to experience . July & August are "tourist" months with more events and venues with CB celtic music, except for the Celtic Colours Festival Oct 10-18 . Fall colours season varies and can be good from Oct 1-20.

The next question will be, how much time will you have on the ground here. Tell us the wish list, we'll tell you how to achieve it.

caperbeach my husband and I are retired and can pick when to come. We are looking for a 2009 trip and open for the best time of the year to come. Nice weather always makes for a better time. Going to spend a week in Maine, my husband went to college there, and then a week in Nova Scotia. Open for all suggestions for having a good time.

This year we spent time in Vancouver and Victoria. Lovely cities and we had a blast.

well, since we are looking forward to 2009 , I'll start by suggesting you try to find the website for what is known as "The Tall Ships" as they are due to be in Halifax next summer, and if you have never seen them , they are unbeliveable, especially if you can be there a day to go aboard and the day they sail out.

They are here every 5th year and whether only 50 or as many as 80 , they are a sight to behold. You would need one day at least on the ground in Halifax to see them.

With that in mind , I also suggest you look at two B&B's as well. One is Heritage Hideaway in Bedford. Another is Briarwood in Elmsdale.

Now, some people from the US have been flying into Bangor and renting vehicles to travel to the Maritimes which would seem to fit your plans.

So, let's start with that as a focal point and go from there.

caperbeach thanks so very much. The Tall Ships look incredible. Did a google and got the dates in July when they are there. Some incredible photos on flickr.

Looks like we will be centering our travels around the festival. Very much appreciated.

ok, next part of my mission is to then get you to Cape Breton for a couple of days.

So let me know what you think you might like to do when on Cape Breton Island and we'll get that all in the plan.

Caperbeach the B&B's both look lovely. Thank you.

I'm brainstorming going to Toronto for a few days. Then flying to Nova Scotia. Cape Breton Island looks like a must do. Just finished a nice article in Travel & Liesure about Nova Scotia.

Do you think it best to fly into Halifax from Toronto and then fly out of Cape Breton Island back to Spokane? Renting a car for getting around.

What is the main airport on Cape Breton Island?

Thank you so much for your time.

my guess is to fly into Halifax , rent a car, do the trip and fly out of Halifax.

Basically CB to Halifax AIRPORT would not exceed 5 hours and depending could be as few as 4 hours.

The Halifax airport is about 35 minutes outside teh city, so to get to Cape Breton from the airport, you basically jump on the highway, and only have 1 set of lights for the rest of your trip.

I do not know car drop off charges.

I also am not sure of air fares to Sydney but many of the flights to Sydney leave Halifax anyway, so if you fly Toronto to Sydney you might find yourself sitting in Halifax for an hour or more.

I would also think adding the Halifax to Sydney part to a trip may cost a bit more than it's worth.
